Personally over my dev years I started off using values but now I comfortably use attributes knowing they dont make much clutter in explorer, and they're easy to save and load. i still use values in specific situations tho as if I need to point to a direct target or something

i prefer use values for small tasks or game data (such as current map name), and attributes in some big systems/scripts

Well, as an experienced Roblox developer, you should use attributes instead of values, but only when table storage is too cumbersome or impossible. Tables (you could create a module for it, which I do) are the best way to save temporary data. I recommend you to create a library for your game that manages everything, at least.

i’ve been using object values for pointing to specific instances. That way I don’t have to update my scripts when I change the objects location in the hierarchy. Values can also be helpful for dependency injection when instantiating things but I think attributes could and should be used in most other cases

@@coln.luminescent would you care to elaborate then? It really takes no time to do what I described. I’ve found it really helpful to set a scripts object values for things that it requires when dynamically instantiating things.

I agree; I just want roblox to allow attributes to be a value that points to an instance, not sure if they just forgot to add that, or if there is some technical reason for why they can't, or something I'm just missing

Personally, I prefer Values. Haven't really bothered using Attributes, but they're both really good.

the principal problem with values is the security reasons you can't use them unless they are parented, and therefore, their use is limited - you are FORCED to reveal all of them on the client side, and as such, they are subject for client-side exploits, UNLESS you are very eager to implement a complex NetworkOwnership-based manager class

Omo i think that using attributes is better to quick things, while values for big things, like server configs and values.
