The problem with taxes is it is human nature to not give a F about other people's money when there aren't immediate repercussions or any at all. The only acceptable income tax rate is 0% at the federal level, and the small amount of government we do need should can be financed through sales taxes, tolls, fees, etc.
@mautc1
@mautc1 4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately that wouldn’t be posible. The federal government is in charge of many vital things, think commerce, federal infrastructure, air traffic control, the military, etc. This simply would not be able to be funded with just sales taxes or tolls, unless they become 45+%. That just would not be feasible.

Travel across this country you will see which states have higher tax rates, its in the quality of infrastructure. Look at the Rest Stops. The curbs, the pavement. Accountability is the key word. The government has zero accountability. If I don’t pay taxes, I go to prison. If the government squanders my tax money, they don’t face any consequences. They’ll just blame it on something else, and ask for more.
@JT-gi8rx
@JT-gi8rx Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Patrick could’ve worded it better. He should’ve said that if all of our tax dollars just went to essentials, or just went to what was promised during a campaign, then that’s one thing. But every time there’s a pile of tax money that gets squandered, and we had no say. People voted for Biden, but his platform didn’t say he was going to put through a multi-trillion dollar Covid stimulus package, which drastically drove up inflation. Or things like Canada’s Trudeau spends money on, like abortion programs in Africa. Stuff like that, NO ONE voted for. Stuff like the carbon tax he introduced, which cripples everyone financially, NO ONE voted for. When these powers don’t spend our taxes wisely, there’s not a lot of options for us as voters, because either we know that all political parties will do the same thing, or we have no choice but to put up with it because we consider the other party to be worse. The overall point being, once these parties are elected, they aren’t really accountable anymore, they can spend the money any which way they want, and there will be nothing us voters can do. Especially when the media is corrupted and twists the message.

It's as simple as income vs spending. if a household or government has an income of 100k a year but constantly spends 150k and has to borrow 50k on top of what they earn to buy/make whatever they think they want or need ( when it is probably not necessary), then you are not spending that money wisely. And wisdom is never going to win when you have a population financially hostage through taxes and no accountability. Because that debt is not going anywhere and we are going to be losing parts of our country and our heritage to debtors that want to subjugate or destroy our way of life. We are not even borrowing from friends but enemies of our way of life. They are probably waiting to drop the hammer. And that would mean war. How are we going to let China establish a sovereign territory inside the continental US when they come for the land we used to leverage the loan for the trillions that we owe them and they come knocking for that money? We won't. It will be war. And they are probably waiting for the right set of circumstances where we will not be able to effectively defend ourselves. We can't wait for the checkmate to wake up. That's probably a worst-case scenario but we can't deny that the circumstances are in place that could lead to that disaster.

That question didn't make any sense. This entire debate was Patrick interrupting David and interpreting everything he said in absurd ways. When did he say he wanted the government to pick his daughter's education? The argument is for the option of public higher education to at least exist, as it does in many other countries (which still have private colleges), but in Patrick's mind that somehow turns into "the government controlling your children education". This podcast was very frustrating.

The question itself was ignorant. The government doesn’t choose what school you would go to, but what if they said “all public universities are free”. Yes you still have private colleges like Stanford, Harvard, Princeton etc. But if you get into North Carolina State or Michigan State or UNLV etc those are free. Would that change your answer? Also private companies don’t do everything better than the government. For example if the postal service was privatized it would be horrendous and millions of people would not get their mail because the government actually loses money on certain routes in rural areas, same thing with public transit. Private companies would only run the most profitable routes.

If you allow other countries to have that influence more than you then commerce gradually moves from you to them. China being in Africa having a monopoly on mined resources is why the Chinese car market has surpassed the US. Russia being a massive presence in the EU for energy means the sanctions the US imposed on them are virtually useless, how dire would the US influence in Europe be if they weren’t overspending on NATO alliances? If the US wasn’t on friendly financial terms with the Saudi’s historically this great currency dominance you’re slowly losing would have never gotten of the ground to begin with. The US doesn’t have a choice but to spend on countries because the minute they don’t they become useless instantly. You can’t point at a single thing the world would benefit from if the US stopped spending. What value would the IS be to anyone? YOUR economy is backed by our spending with YOUR dollar being the focal point. If you then spend all the money WE give you on YOURSELVES only then what reason do we have to cooperate with you?

David uses the word accountability during the interview. Yet I bet he can't give any real-world examples of how the citizen CAN make the government accountable. To give you an example, he might complain about the Catholic priest child abuse scandals. Yet, he probably doesn't know that a child is actually more likely to be abused in the public school. He might respond with the idea that a teacher in the public school would be held accountable, but a deep dive into the evidence shows this is not the case. Add to that the fact that if you find out that the priest in your local church is abusing children, you have the freedom to not go to that church anymore. If you find out that the public school teacher is abusing your children, you do not have the freedom to not send your kid to the public school anymore.

Whatever the insurance companies decide is up to their business model and your chosen level of coverage, correct? Short waiting times for medical care are priority part of private health insurance in many countries. If you have private health care insurance in the UK it can be 2 or 3 weeks to see a specialist but if you have the mandatory NHS insurance it is up to 18 weeks or more. Why do you need the government acting as the middleman?? That makes no sense. I'd actually be happy if I could direct where my taxes go, too. Like saying we all have to pay 10% of our earnings in taxes, then WE get to say where it goes (Like filling out a line item list: 45% for public schools, 25% for the military personnel incomes, 20% for policing, 10% towards federal road maintenance.) We'd soon find out what programs the American taxpayers REALLY support and programs that received no funding, would be ended. That's fair. Programs would receive only the funding the people wanted to go towards it and they ALL have to perform within that amount. Perfect.

They do this to appear like they are so much smarter than the other guy, they were able to even find holes in his questions that rendered them unanswerable. This is usually accomplished by acting like every question posed to them is incomplete or incapable of a proper straightforward answer. I think that is precisely the point where David pakman knew exactly who he was talking to and kind of just started spitballing. Because that's something that anybody with basic knowledge on how the American economy works would simply off their heads and then that's where the conversation would continue
