@gustavocambeiro am not a fan of The View whatsoever, nor do I support these female commentors but big fyi, maybe New York Ricans are not descendants from Spain today, but indeed and actual Historical facts have stated that from the start of the conquest of Puerto Rico during , it was the Los Spaniard conquistadors settlements who began in the early 1500s in the Island and shortly after the formation of the Spanish State within Puerto Rico in 1493, which continues to the present day. Castilians Spaniard did ruled over the religious (Roman Catholicism) and political life of Puerto Rico aka Borikén(indigenous name of Puerto Rico), and Christopher Columbus came to the island for just a few years and then returned to Spain(taking with him teenage indigenous girls as a gifts of honor to the Spaniard Kingdom). However, many stayed. Among Puerto Rico's founding families were the Castilian Ponce de León family- until this day there is a famous statue of Juan Ponce de León, a Spanish explorer and conquistador from Valladolid, Spain who was Known for leading the First Official European expedition to Puerto Rico from 1508 - 1514. I've seen the the statue of Leon and old San Juan could easily be misidentified as almost any pueblo in Spain. The culture, the language and the last names all signify where their people came from, along with their indigenous genes obviously.

Also it was the Spainards & Portuguese not British who brought slavery to the American continent. In fact May Flower colonists were Puritans. They were against slavery. In 1854 formed Republican party to abolish slavery. So actually brown people owned slaves more than whites.

That guy is 100% correct. When I’m confronted by the truth (video, photo or fact) and I had been defending a position or person, I apologize and vow to keep a broader mind. I love the New Yorker vibe from him juxtaposed with his incredibale experience having been a secret service agent for both parties (Clinton/Bush/Obama) he’s seen it all and has an incredible work ethic. He’s right 6:05 my mom grew up in the Jim Crow era of the south. In the 50s and toward the civil rights era toward the end of the 60s. Yes life was harder for her back then she even took part in sit-ins and marching back then but she still was able to succeed in life today and doesn’t hold people especially in this generations or after her with no prejudice. She said how can I hold them accountable for something the previous generation did or what their grandparents or parents did. I don’t even have a fraction of those same obstacles and was able to make something of myself.

Because of the lasting effects. Lots of folks want reparations for things like the GI Bill in WW2. You don’t have to go as far back as slavery.. folks want reparations for the Tuskegee Experiments which only ended in the 70’s. There’s even stuff from the 80’s as far as home loans that black people who are alive and received letters saying it was specially because they were black that they were denied.. There’s no need to go as far back as slavery or Jim Crow…some black people are owed for Vietnam service STILL!
