When you watch Jay Cutler's rise from teen nationals he seemed to be destined to be Mr Olympia. Jay Cutler would have went down as one of the most dominant Mr. Olympians ever had it not been for the phenom Ronnie Coleman. I was at the 98 Olympia when Ronnie won it for the first time and it was the most dominant victory I've ever seen. When they did first call out and quarter turns and he set down on his glutes the show was over

His speech after losing to Jay that year was pure class. He said he wouldn't be back the following year to compete (which he did later and got 4th) but told everyone to come back and support the event, to support bodybuilding, that he was only a man and all glory goes to God, etc. Whether you believe or not, to maintain such humility for someone who dominated a sport for almost an entire decade speaks volumes to the calibre of man that Ronnie is. Ya Jay Cutler was in better condition that year. It was truly impressive and shows his tenacity and perseverance to dethrone the champ. Ronnie held a lot more water in his gut, legs and arms that year. Still the most epic run in all of bodybuilding.

It was obvious he was gonna lose. Jay I don't think had improved that much but was consistent for 3-4 years but Ronnie's gut and lower chest and overall conditioning was wayyyyy off this time around and they had to give this one to Jay, 100%. Just compare them side by side and look at Jays conditioning compared to Ronnie's. Miles apart.

True, but Ronnie still had the better back, glutes, hams, and arms overall. Ronnie probably incorrectly assumed he could still win the Olympia from the back with flaws like Dorian had done before him. He was wrong.

@@Commander76 I don't think Ronnie put that much thought into his prep, I think Ronnie just did what he always did, but as his body got older and more worn out by the training, diets and drugs... he just couldn't get in the same shape as when he was younger.

I dont know about Jay having better conditioning. Ronnie had Veins everywhere.

This is complete bs. Ronnies Chest was a little bit flat at the end but while flexing it was miles over Cutlers. Compare both legs, arms, shoulders, hams, glutes; Ronnie beats him all day, because cutler looks smoothas hell. The only reason why he Lost was his asymmetric back. Callin out his midesction for being bad is ridiculous, if you compare it to jays. Jays midsection was blocky as hell

Jay actually talks about this in the 2007 Jay to Z movie. He said Ronnie told him he won on stage and someone told Ronnie backstage.

But now they killed Mr Olympia , now no one even knows the last year's winner or anyone competing , and 10 years ago we could name at least 10 big shots, and everyone was well known..

If anyone has ever hurt there back training say bending over or dead lifting your know its agony literally you can't walk for a week or more content muscle spasms and sciatica.... now times that pain by 100 .. thats what Ronnie is going through in this interview after taking strongest painkillers available , u can literally see the pain in his face through his smile... back screws and plates pressing against your nerves I can't imagine how it must feel ... but still has the kindest soul.

When are we going to see Jay Cutler on Valuetainment? I would bet (uh no pun) everything that Patrick has already reached out to him. The fact that Jay trailed behind Ronnie for so many years and finally managed to do the unthinkable in 2006 is possiby the greatest story in bodybuilding.
