Thank you Patrick for a wonderful interview with Garry Kasparov, I am like half a million Armenians who grew up in Baku and escaped ethnic cleansing in 1989, I am same age with Garry and lived in same neighborhood in Baky , we were very proud of him, since we have little computer knowledge , and he was the first to bring and open a computer school in the city of Baku.

Wow, extremely impressive. A lot of gold in this conversation. No wonder this man is so successful. Thanks Patrick Bet-David - I appreciate you doing this work for all of us to see. You look so comfortable in an environment that doesn't feel to me to be very easy to be comfortable in. Thanks Garry Kasparov for all you did for chess and inspiring me to continue to get better relentlessly in all things that I do. I believe this will lead to continued success in my life and hope to pass this on to my kids. I really like how you said at the end, "We cannot end the war that was declared on us. We are in the midst of this war." I was explaining this to my parents, and to not be aware that we are in a war is a mistake.

@@therearenoshortcuts9868 I don't live in the US, never even been there actually. I live in East Europe and we were also under communism, we probably had it even worse than Russia. Our people were starving in the 80s because the politicians were reserving the food for export to other "commie friends", including Russia. You people have no idea what real suffering is-no offense. I had an argument with some woman from the US on a facebook group a while ago and she was defending communism, saying that some people in the US work two jobs and share a flat well into their 30s and 40s to get by, and that everyone should be able to have a home. I told her that if she had to live 2 months under communism-the way we had it in the 80s, she would be crying over the good old days when she worked two jobs and shared a flat.

@@AstroMartine Most Americans have no idea what communism is. Most of us want things like universal healthcare, affordable education and job training, livable wages, retirement plans, and affordable housing. Our corporate overlords have used their conservative puppets in the government and the right-wing media to convince many Americans that this equates to communism, which is why some misguided liberals say that they want it.
@AstroMartine
@AstroMartine 3 жыл бұрын
@@AnonYMous-wf3wq sadly that is how communism always starts, when people are desperate and struggling to survive. I read somewhere that the Chinese agreed to communism because millions were so poor they would have died of hunger, and the communists promised everyone a bowl of rice per day.

@AnonYMous-wf3wq 3 жыл бұрын
@@AstroMartine A mixed economy with high levels of government intervention seems to be working extremely well for Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and most countries in Western Europe. Meanwhile, the American healthcare, education, and retirement systems are in ruins because of corporate greed. Medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy in this country, and the average person can't get a college degree without going into crippling debt that they will spend the rest of their life paying off. Communism obviously doesn't work, but neither does unrestrained capitalism.

This was a great interview. As a good Armenian I knew that he was half Armenian. Kasparov is a legend and he will be remembered as the greatest chess master. We need more people with his skills in leadership roles in governments and corporations who can see the big picture and decide on their next moves. When I see the latest U.S. decision to leave abruptly Afghanistan, it tells me that we have a major problem. Unfortunately these days people elect government leaders as a protest vote for the other guy. This means that, we are not very smart and we really do not have great talents running for the office. Putin is a very different story... There is the Good, the Bag & the Ugly.

This is very similar to chart reading for traders, you can pull up and chart and information you want in seconds, but a select few that started drawing charts by hand or notations on printed chart delveop a mastery and discipline that is rare today.

Pat asking great questions. It seems strange that Gary keeps looking at the crowd in the interview more than he looks at Pat. lol Gary is a great guy to learn from.

Great interview. Thank you. I'm an avid chess player so Kasparov has always been someone I've admired. Now I admire him more for his wisdom as well as his acumen in chess. Only one thing I beg to differ with him, and it's this: talent and hard work is not enough to succeed in today's corporate world, because every industry is about profit. What I find is equally important is luck. If your circumstances do not coincide at the right time with recognition by the right people in the field you're striving towards, no amount of talent of effort will get you anywhere, unfortunately.

ok this is epic gonna be commenting as I watch 1.Didnt expect him to think of computers only being tools which I actually agree with. I like how he clarifies games as closed systems. "Computers are useless because they can only give you answers." 2. Mad respect that hes able to say china gave us the virus while america gave the vaccine 3. Freedom is a fragile thing and that its one generation away from extinction that garry quoted reagan on after transitioning from stating that americans take things for granted is very true and insightful 4. His statement on unadvising tips and emphasizing personal conditions does point to the big picture

patrick doesn't pay attention, he does this half attention thing because he knows that if he put the same amount of energy that he puts into trying to look sophisticated with this half attention thing into actually paying attention that he would be severely dissapointed he half listens and then he tries to make elaborate questions that seem well thought out but they are actually just based on an estimation of what the person said and then trying to tie it elaborately to basic analogies that he has thought about already and trying to remember the specific words that the person used and connect it to his story on a whim to make it seem like he saw the forest instead of the leaves because there's no way to be wrong about what the other person said if he uses the exact words that they used or so patrick thinks it's why i can't stand listening to the guy, he's just low iq. that isn't to say that he's not successful

Every body is bobby fischer crazy but this man was a god in chess in the 90s deep blue was a foot note and didn't dent em at the time. I love chess because of Gary's chess poetry. Its an art to watch n hear a master who is the top of what they do. I mean top 1a. The number one world over. Magnus will have to run some decades at one to be a Gary kasparov heavy. Likely hel do it but today in time there is this mans brain n it makes some beautiful chess before opening prep. Analyzing garys analysis allowed me to analyze my games In a new chess language I didn't no before . Thanks Gary
