Going to disagree with GSP here. Colby Covington is a prime example of how being unauthentic was the better choice. He was on the verge of being let go from the UFC then made the right decision to go complete heel to stay on the roster despite winning his fights. He’s had to overcome obstacles of navigating through a career of uncertainty through being unauthentic, but overall, it was either that or he would have lost traction in his career. Many people misinterpreted this at the time. He had to lose friends, gain notoriety and burn bridges along the way. However, when your back is against the wall, sometimes you just have to fake it to make it.

There are fighters who are crashing on couches hoping the time they invested will return dividends. You can’t fault them for having to make drastic adjustments to put their livelihood first. This world is entertainment based after all. It’s easier for one person to make an adjustment than to try persuade an entire industry. Either way, Colby has fully committed to his persona. Nobody’s opinion gets to dictate anything that has to do with a man’s paycheck. Otherwise, he would have been continuing to fight for pennies. And for what?
