Excellent video. I have a good mechanical mind but have never done tappet adjustments before. This video highlights perfectly how simple it really is once you have your head around it. Thanks! NOTE: Hope you all remember to do this every 7,500 miles as per the manual - Takes the edge off the naturally clattery Air/Oil cooled engine which helps me sleep at night lol

Hi did you loosen all adjusters without measuring before or did I see it wrong? Whatever,one suggestion from an old pro/greaser which makes the job far more easy. Take out the sparkplugs,then turn cylinderwise till the right tdc.Thats the one when the valves are all closed. Easy to see it while you do turn through both tdc's Then the camlobes of this cylinder dont touch a valve. Now you can measure every valve of the cylinder and correct it if necessary. greets Richard

why not silicon the new cover seal in the grove on cover instead of on flat head and then trying to line it up. lucky it sealed.
@blaice73658 жыл бұрын
God, this would take days for someone new to try and do without messing anything up. You took off almost everything. I cleaned the carbs in my 750 01 cat awhile ago, and was contemplating adjusting the valves while syncing the carb and changing the spark plugs, but after seeing this.... F that.
@Fixnit148 жыл бұрын
+Blaice it's a lot of stuff to take off but it's pretty easy and straight forward. It should only take about 3hr to do everything. Took me 6hr having to deal with camera angles and family drama.
@blaice73658 жыл бұрын
3hrs? No way. Maybe if you already possess all of the knowledge, but comprehending which is exhaust and intake, ordering all of the new seals, and taking off everything and putting it back together alone would take at least 4+ and I'd wager way more than that. I might still do it, but it'll take a long time.

I was wondering if this was a shim or a rocker type. Thanks for the video! Do you know if it is the same on the Bandit?
@laservlx4 жыл бұрын
Some of the 600s were shims. But only a couple years. The rest and all the 750 were adjustable tappets.

Wish I had seen this before I rotated the engine the hard way pulling off the cover and turning the crank. 🤔 This is the first bike that the chain doesn't come off as well. I was going to drop it in my sonic cleaner. Pulled the tire, and what the h***, it is around the fork tube. I'm not taking all that apart....$%^@#&^* But the bent feeler gauges are well worth it for the adjusting. I broke down and got the adjuster wrench as well for that square head on ebay. Had to buy the oil wrench I will never use again since I went with the oil filter with the nut on it. What a shock the cylinder with the stutter also has the valve that was loose. Can't believe they call the bike white, when it is mostly blue. Gas tank color used to be the bike color.

Why not check clearences before we slackening the locknuts?
@Fixnit145 жыл бұрын
You could... but there is a recommended service time for the procedure. I can't recall at the moment when it is though. On cars it somewhere between 50k and 100k. Motorcycles would be much less because motorcycles are not expected to go beyond 100k. (I would assume anyway)

@@Fixnit14 How come you didn't remove the signal generator cover and turn the crankshaft using a 19 millimeter wrench like the manual states. also you stated that the valve clearence was in whole millimeters, good job other than that
@Fixnit144 жыл бұрын
The millimeters was a slip I did catch in editing. And for me it's easier and faster to leave the bike in gear and spin the tire then to open the crankcase and turn the crank. Working as a professional you learn to find the fastest way to do the work to make the most money without compromising the quality of the job. That was my personal bike at the time and I drove it another 10,000 + miles before it got wrecked beyond repair.
