Great video series on Valve Adjustment. Best one on KZbin that i've found. Getting rdy to do the same steps on my 2002 CBR954RR with 44k miles. Going to adjust valves and replace cam chain and tensioner. Thanks for showing everyone how to save tons of $ by doing it yourself. :)

The most clear and concise video i’ve seen on what I thought was a very daunting job! Gonna attempt this on my SRAD 600

Hi mate, how to measure the present shims? you have shown clearly to measure the clearance, I am not quite sure how to determine the present shim before we use the simple equation. Cheers!

Muscle Biker I love these videos, no one has ever shown such an in depth video of some of the things you've done here. Could we get a cost of doing this yourself versus getting a mechanic to do it? Pros and Cons? Video liked! Love your vids dude:D keep up the hard work;)
@Shimmoda7 жыл бұрын
For sure! But in short a valve adjustment can cost 500+ for the zx6r but for my aprilia it costs 1100-1500. If I didn't need the tools then all I needed to pay for was a 35% gasket and 50$ worth of shims haha
@victorgonza45284 жыл бұрын
Investing in some quality tools makes a difference when doing engine related work , also could you explain how is it the new shim smaller then the old one ?

Your pretty smart kid.. but i would have done all of them anyway, being that you went through all the work to strip the engine down. you could have pulled some of the closer shims back into spec closer than what they were because they eventually we be out of spec anyway..

Also look into getting an APE manual CCT. You typically need to replace those OEM auto CCT's after about 20k miles or so. Just had to replace mine, and that APE CCT was some of the best $50 investments I've put on my bike.
@Shimmoda7 жыл бұрын
hahah ikr! I'm gunna look into that Thanks for the recommendation! Where did you buy it from?
@ClarkBrent7 жыл бұрын
I bought mine directly from APE's website. They're SoCal based, and I got the CCT in about two days after it was shipped. Wouldn't take much longer to get to Utah I suspect. The machining of the part is top notch, and is basically it's the go to manual CCT for our bikes. Pretty sure this thing will last longer than the life of my ZX6R.

I wanted to install race cams on my ZX10R and honestly this project doesn't sound too bad at all... looks like I probably don't even need to drop the engine?!
@Shimmoda5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t done that before but from what I’ve understood you don’t need to drop the frame and you just swap out the old cams
@NJOwens-ep3hf7 жыл бұрын
hey The Muscle Biker - Just a thought for the next videos in the series - why not use a combination of tripod & headband mounts for your cam ??
@Shimmoda7 жыл бұрын
I don't want to use the headband cuz it's harder to see in detail. I used the Tripod for a few clips but I was trying to get close up shots haha I was shaky with all the caffeine XD

good video! Btw, which oil do u use to lubricate the shim? I guess engine oil ?
@Shimmoda5 жыл бұрын
Yeah just whatever oil you use to put in the engine I think the zx6r was 10w-40

So muscle biker. If not for the stripped bolt trouble would you diy this again. Looking back was it really that bad.?

Yeah I would still do it. I'm selling my RSV4 to go back to an inline four because of how easy they are to do the valves
@kawilifezx10r234 жыл бұрын
My buddy tried this on his zx6r ended up turning it into a 300cc engine after he put it all together. We never figured out why he was running on 2 cylinders only but he sold the bike and bought a new one lesson learned.
