Thank you so much for this! I had a leaking cover gasket and after spending the entire price of my used car on repairs within the first month of having it, I was sick of paying to go to the mechanic and decided to try fixing this myself. I know nothing about cars other than the absolute bare minimum, and needless to say I was pretty afraid of touching anything under the hood. But I felt confident enough after watching this through twice, and spent $75 on tools and a new gasket combined (far cheaper than $200+ for the mechanic). I asked for supervision from my coworker's dad, and we managed to get it replaced. :) My very first time fixing anything on a car! I was pretty scared shitless when the car stalled a bit while starting it back up at the end, but luckily it came through. It did take us a bit longer than it should have since we got stuck on two things, so here's my advice to anyone else who wants to try this but is very, very new to car stuff: - Make sure to use deep sockets for the bolts on the valve cover. We had to stop and buy some halfway through getting it off because I only bought normal sockets. - Check very carefully and make sure you unscrew ALL the bolts along the perimeter of the valve cover. We kept missing bolts that were hidden under the surrounding wires. - And lastly, believe in yourself! If someone like me can manage to do this, anyone can. :D

Just found this after buying my daughter an 09 Fusion that needed a gasket replaced. Great tutorial, gave me all the info I needed except 1 vital detail. You are gonna need an 8mm DEEPWELL socket for the cover bolts around the outside. All but 2 you can reach with a regular wrench... off to the tool store I go with a torn apart engine.

Came to give a thumbs up even though I did this about 2 years ago. Same exact experience finding the leak lol I thought it was a cheap truck next to me, but the following day, at the same light I noticed it and found it when I got home. Was afraid at first that it was a more serious issue, but just the gasket. Most recent repair was the serpentine belt, which was due for replacement. Made it to about 106k miles before it failed.

They are great cars and last is they are taken care of. We have a couple of them in our family. My 2006 SEL has about 240,000 and still runs great. The engine and transmission in these cars are solid. Some fusions get a slightly hard shift between 1st and 2nd gear. Some things that don’t last in these cars are the inside door handles, the display on the radio. The blower motor plug, and or the connector to the blower motor resistor and resistor. The engine thermostats fail but not often and they will stay open and car will run cooler than normal. Also the motor mounts but that also depends on how hard the car is driven. The trunk struts also by this age are worn out. These are the things I remember off the top of my head and i thinks that’s most of them. Good Luck.

@freightshaka4193

I have a 2008 mercury milan 2.3l and it was leaking oil from where yours was and also into where the spark plugs go. I torqued the right bolt by the coil pack by 89ft lbs instead of inch lbs and snapped the bolt head off. I was lucky enough to take the valve cover back off and use a pair of vise grips to twist the rest of the bolt out of the head. But because of the way the cover is designed i needed a whole new cover. I went to my local pull a part and found a replacement. Brought it home and decided to spray the entire thing with wd40 engine degreaser foam and then rinse off with the water hose. Because the replacement was showing coolant leakage on the inner gaskets. But now i still have some water on the inside of the cover in the plastic cover i cant access. Not excessive amounts of water but its air drying. Got a new fel pro gasket set im just afraid of water inside this cover not dried before i put it back on. What should i do? How long should i wait? This video has helped me so far thank you!
