Melee charge doesn’t proc if you have full bonus ammo, that’s why it never worked after the first time you used it, it says it in the item description 1:18:45

It's worth noting that with a lot of the upgrade items that you get a lot of the stats from the pre-upgrade and the post-upgrade all in one slot. I think the fact it keeps only taking up one slot is what keeps the upgrade price balanced. At the same time, not all upgrade keep the buffs and those ones should be the normal tier price

this is exactly how dota balances its items. The main reason you get upgraded items is because of freeing up slots, because the more expensive the item is, the less stats you get for the gold cost.

15:55 adding some discount for upgrading items so you’re not spending the full value each time would be a nice QoL considering that’s how most players assume they work anyways, but I wonder if it was purposeful because of the added bonus that it’s not taking up a whole additional item slot. Usually I only build upgrades for items if there’s no free item/flex slots but it would be nice if there was a little more decision making involved, but it’s likely intentional to keep the power level of item upgrades in check in comparison to items that don’t build into others. Seems like they’re experimenting with upgrades more in general so who knows maybe they’ll play around with it (hope they do)!

33:37 I literally only had sleep paralysis once, for upwards of only 15 seconds max, and I was terrified because I thought I became paralyzed. Couldn't move my arms, legs, breathing was difficult (might be because I was PANICKING), and everything felt dead. I don't know if others can get it for way longer or sleep paralysis is just a few moments of complete paralysis, but I don't wish it on anyone.

Don’t know if you have noticed or if anyone has pointed out yet, but when you were testing the viscous change you were missing the melee charge only works when you don’t have full mag. It should work as intended if you don’t have full mag

Hi Mast, really love your videos! I'd definitely like to see more of these patch note analyses, but would find it really helpful if you added timestamps for when you discuss each part of the docs. As a more casual player, I'm most interested in seeing changes to Heroes and their abilities, and don't really click with the slight changes in item effect percentages for example, so would like to see that first and maybe come back to the rest later. Love your stuff though, keep it up!

I feel like the thing league does is perfect where a lot of cheap items build into a more expensive one so it won't feel like cancer having to rush a T4, sitting on 3k+ souls and not being able to get even a fraction of utility from those souls till you hit 6k

Sorry if this gets covered in the vid later but the big thing with the McGinnis change is that the damage they can take is no longer capped, it's just they're guaranteed that first four seconds no matter what. The problem with the last thing they tried with the turrets wasn't that they were guaranteed to live for 3 seconds, it was that because they could only take x amount of damage per second she could *fucking outheal most of the damage you did to them*, that was the big problem with the change. Now if you get the turret to 0 hp her healing doesn't matter anymore, it still dies when the time is up. Plus before it was guaranteed at least 3 seconds from when you started damaging it, now it's 4 seconds from when she places it. I think this is actually a really healthy change, being able to instakill turrets is bad for her but the previous attempt was way too exploitable and outside of this 4 second lifetime her turrets are so much more frail than they used to be between their spirit resist being gutted and them not scaling off of her hp anymore.

I really like how it works right now where you have a few expensive building items and the rest single-buy. My reasoning is that the building items are a way for them to introduce more expensive (ie: more slot efficient) items but still keep the same tier system with consistent prices. You are encouraged to utilize the component items either directly into your build throughout the game or as a way to pivot (seen by them adding some items from different categories building into each-other). Its also good to have more expensive items to act as an endgame soul sink for any players unlucky enough to be caught up in a power hour game. I really really like how the item slot mechanics work in this game because it means that (at least in theory) all characters can be any mix of AD/AP/HP you want and most will have some baseline stats in each, which helps new players understand the progression and also makes enemy teams much more understandable with counters and approaches. I think they really like how readable and understandable the game is for everyone and I have to assume they will continue this trend.

For getting shorter cooldowns with Infernus dash, use superior duration. You'll not only have less remaining cooldown on the ability by the time its finished, but it'll burn for longer and you can run further. EDIT: remembered, had to confirm: combining rapid recharge, superior cooldown, and superior duration gives you infinite charges with 1.5 - 2s cooldown between charges.

i think the reason why the price to upgrade component items in this game is the standard price of the respective tier is because of slot efficiency in a game where not every low tier item is a component, slot efficiency is an important aspect of any given item, and component items have the benefit of not needing to be sold when you want to replace them with something better if you were to sell resto shot, you're spending the price of what you're upgrading into plus 250 right because you lost 250 to pay for resto shot so i personally think tier one items actually save money already, they save that 250 if that makes sense

Sleep rocking instantly was is also good for the haze because it means pocket and ivy can get hit THEN use thier invisibility

Knockdown will also affect ulting Seven and Bebop given they tend to get higher up for those. Debuff remover is now going to be pretty important for a few heroes.

For the idea of upgrading items between tiers being cheaper instead of buying them at, I just always thought they did that. I never even realized that I was paying more for them, but I've also mostly just been dunking bots to experience the characters, so it's not like it mattered much lol

The item upgrading thing makes sense on paper, but I think having to spend the extra money is a cool extra dimension for balancing. Boundless Spirit is crazy expensive but when you build it it definitely feel like something worth the almost 10k priceline, though I'm not familiar with the cost-effectiveness math so that may just not be true.

Warden gets resists only during channel, so not that big of a deal, just lets you ult more aggressively.

I believe the soul share are meant for competitive purposes, where two players from duo lane actually roam around losing opportunities on soul, this is to compensate the roaming support player during the game. Meanwhile sharing for noob is also a good change, all I see in games is people trying to get 50k afk farm, have 0 presence in a game, came out after the game finished, can’t carry, blame team.

Me and a friend played this patch just as it launched and my friend got mirage. His scarab that game did the full hp steal on every dmg tick so with one hit in level one he dropped enemies down to like 20hp. Mirage was killswitch the next game

I think upgrading items is fine. You mention that you might not care about the Slowing Bullets component when it's part of Glass Cannon, but if you DO like both items, you gain value now that they aren't competing for slots. I do think the items they put together should be commonly used together (if they were separate before) to lean more into how they emphasize a certain playstyle rather than just bundling two items together. Glass Cannon, Return Fire, and Slowing Hex feel kinda random with their components, but aside from those, building items you can upgrade feels like you're playing with a build that reinforces itself over the course of a game.

It would've made more sense to build slowing bullets into lucky shot. But that would be a nerf to lucky shot because of the price, so I also don't want it changed

I get the idea with the 'discount' from having previous items in the line, but I think the issue would be balancing. If you make it so Boundless is technically 3k from Improved Spirit and balance it around that how do you justify if someone needs to just buy the tier 4 on its own? As a more common example, like Glass Cannon when you may not need the slowing bullets. Maybe Boundless is an unique example given any build that uses it will almost always have Improved spirit before it, but not all upgrades would be that consistent. I think the benefit of not having it discounted is already realised in the interim powerspike and the item slot economy. When you are starved for slots the upgrade items can be invaluable so you can still invest your souls for a spike without needing to sell or wait for a flex slot.

In regards to the conversation about how lower tier items build into higher ones while not providing any type of economic incentive to do so, I think a good compromise could come in the form of essentially rewarding the player for building certain items earlier in the game. My thinking was that once a player builds a lower tier item like Extra Spirit, an invisible in-game timer would start, and after about 10 or so minutes (really depending on how the developers want the pace of the game to feel), the player could purchase the upgraded version with the original price of Extra Spirit knocked off, so in this case Improved Spirit would only be 2500 souls if the player built Extra Spirit early and waited. Granted, maybe the game could still give players the option to purchase the upgraded version whenever they wanted to, but if they bought it before that invisible timer was up, they'd have to pay the standard 3000 souls for it. Obviously I'm not a game designer, and I'm sure there are plenty of reasons for why this wouldn't work or just hurt the game's macro, but given how much of the game's rounds already revolve around these invisible timers (camps not spawning until certain times, midboss not spawning until certain times, urn, etc.) I figured it made sense. Besides, it already feels like the point of having items that build into higher tier, upgraded versions is meant to reward the player for buying a specific lower tier item in advance, and avoid the sheer sticker shock of having a tier 4 cost nearly 10k souls (like in the case of Boundless Spirit); this way, the player actually has some real incentive to be smart about what they buy and when they buy it.

I really like this idea, having a simple tool tip of "dont rush to upgrade your items! after 10 minutes they become cheaper to upgrade" would be all the info the player needs to understand whats going on with them and who doesn't like a good deal! :D

Also the gray talon change with the charged shot appears to be only useful when they are out of range, if they stood in the trap it would trigger anyways so there’s no reason to use charge shot on it

to preface my comment - it feels like it was intentional from the devs and that the game is both very complex and very easy to learn as you play. also im gonna use T3 items as the example but my point is for all upgradable items, think Pristine Emblem 3.5k item that only costs 3k if you upgrade from the T1 High vel mag. I really agree with the idea that spending 3.5k souls for a T3 feels rough even if these items can be more powerfull than the other T3s & of course the inherant value of being able to fill the slot with cheaper items prior to upgrading. I think that if you spent more souls on a T3 and got more value thats a much easier pill to swollow for a new player than paying 3k on an upgradable T3 item and not knowing that its less soul efficient in the long run to accomidate the fact that its the same price as other T3 items. I know this could be wirtten and explained in a much better way & I'm not even 100% sure that the devs feel that way but in my head its the correct argument to make, it feels like this way you can balance for the high elo players without creating a knowledge gap for the new players. ty for the thought provoking idea

I'm not gonna lie: I've never been a fan of the upgrade paths for items in deadlock, period full stop. 1) they don't feel particularly more powerful than other things in their tier, headhunter doesn't feel 500 more powerful than say, burst fire. Especially when you consider you probably get more raw stats if you were to just buy more items, slots allowing. Spellslinger Headshots is a great example, I wouldn't buy it if it was a generic t3. I'd rather buy soul shredder and drop another 500 on Ammo Scav. Not only that, 2 patches ago (right before the lifesteal nerf) it would actually make the lifesteal WORSE (soul shred had 10%, spellslinger had 8%) Keep in mind you "lose" the previous tier item so you don't have 18% lifesteal Glass Cannon is another good example, slowing bullets gives a nice chunk of gun damage AND some spirit power, but building into glass cannon makes you LOSE that spirit power. So not only are the upgrade items relatively the same strength as the non upgrade, they are more expensive and make you LOSE the unupgraded version. It's even worse on the cross section upgrades like Enduring Spirit> Slowing Hex cause you lose the +11% hp from it being a green t1. 2) You are right, fliers are just dead this patch, but I think some other characters are gonna catch strays like Lash and Seven, but also any meming Magic Carpeters. 3) huge gunbop patch since hook buffs melee damage which also buffs uppercut AND you can pull allies faster 4) my problem with greytalon is that he feels way too similar to Vindicta, so having no mobility CC but having gigantic curse is interesting. 5) Hate the direction they've been taking Haze- not because it's bad, it's just nonsensical. Her ult is a huge aoe..that only hits one person. Her sleep dagger is a sleep.. but they can walk around? I actually think she's slightly better after the reworks but they still feel wrong and unintuitive 6)Infernus is gonna be so damn mobile, extra charge is dirt cheap and it with echo shard gives you nearly 100% uptime on dash. 7) I said on your gun Geist vid, but spirit Geist scales off spirit items but not spirit stats, Geist wants Mystic Burst in early game. New Geist gives her more sustain in a non lifesteal aspect and turns her ult into a better team fight option. 8) Lash buff seems huge because it makes his combos so consistent especially the extra .5 seconds off his 1. I've had so many times where I've just barely lost one shots cause I lost air height off that .5 sec of CD. 9) Not sure if it was a last patch thing (and i just never play Mirage), but they also changed his suppressed uzi thing to what looks like to be a revolver? Feels much closer to what his gun actually feels like to shoot. Also think new sharpshooter goes crazy on him since he kinda hated fire rate for gun/mark builds, plus it's good on "proc" effects like headhunter, Mystic shot, etc since they are less likely to be affected by fall off range. Keep in mind the traveler buffs include the immunity to CC from t3. 10) Duration seems actually dead on pocket but CD is better to tick down tanks with that max hp 11) Seven ult change kinda big because of that knock back since it let's you knock people pit of cover to get shredded by the main part. 12) Vindicta dead this patch since knockdown basically 100-0 her but the raven speed feels MASSIVE, but the buffed radius on her tether actually feels like a nerf in practice, since it gives the target more room to "wiggle" 13) Viscous puddle punch t3 is genuinely pretty massive, makes it do about 50% more damage off the bat and procs Melee Charge, and gets more lifesteal from lifestrike. Goo ball scaling nerf makes it fairly hard to proc Improved Burst too. 14) Warden changes actually makes him killable in early to mid game when he ults but even tankier and makes improved Duration/CD even better in late, which were things that he likes anyways. 15) new telekinesis a huge nerf, which she needed. Used to be that you stunned, popped full auto then 100-0 a dude, now you can move, try to strafe and people forget that wraith ult and curses let you melee still so you ain't COMPLETELY helpless

also 1:08:00 duration does quite a bit on lash actually, his t1 slam pop up and slow, the grapple t2 fire rate, and the whip t1 slow and t3 fire rate decrease. just wasnt showing those cause you didnt grab them

Since upgrades you lose value, I think by doing so you should have to spend less. So if i bought extra spirit improved should only cost me 2500.

Why do they keep nerfing bebop. Bebop’s WR has been negative since he came out 😂😂 and they just keep nerfing him cause low elo players cry about getting hooked

I think its because low elo players play spirit... if everyone builds the wrong items then there gonna artificially drag the win rate down. its not massive but as elo increases bebops winrate does and i think its because less and less people build spirit lol
