valve timing on a briggs quantum

fellow put ohv plug in a flat head and the exhaust valve hit the plug. to me it appears to have affected the cam timing.

so what happened was that when valve hit plug the lobe shaft stopped turning. it's outer plastic pinned to steel shaft. however the crank kept turning and forced the cam gear to rotate on the steel shaft. it actually cracked the cam gear hub. engine is 2011. I had a 1991 quantum and although cam part numbers were different the 91 cam looked just like the 2011 . I installed it and the engine starts and runs great with the original exhaust valves.
