It got rid of the lifter tick on my 96 Silverado in just 300 miles. Marvel, Seafoam, ATF and engine flushes did nothing. I was planning on replacing the lifters but this oil saved me that expense.

I put in R P about 1k miles back in my Edge with 23k miles on it total. The oil is already dark. Full synthetic is all that's ever been used. Was not expecting to see the dipstick so dark so fast. This oil really works.

On a Honda, if you are having an oil consumption issue, it is recommended that you replace the PCV valve along with three regular maintenance oil changes. Hope that helps anyone who owns a Honda.

If it's not a big pain in the butt remove the oil pan and inspect the bottom of the engine. Also borescope the front cylinders and see the walls conditions. I don't know if tou have other leaks maybe you've already mentioned in a previous video. Thanks for your sharing
@softwaresignals5 күн бұрын
If you had oil consumption for a long time, the cylinder bores could be scored (damaged) as the rings stop moving like they should due to carbon fouling the piston rings. Valvoline Restore and Protect can ONLY clean out the carbon deposits on the rings, NOT fix any previous cylinder bore scoring.
@Mike8052822 сағат бұрын
For minor scoring, consider Cera Tec. The stuff does work, but has it limits.

Kudos to you for taking such good care of the engine. 200k is a huge deal for those to make it to. Hopefully the restore and protect will help it last 100k more.

I had a fuel dilution issue (opposite of you). It has taken about 15K using R&P at 3K intervals for the dilution to slowly go down from 5% to 2% and I’m hoping it gets better. My point is the R&P works slowly in some cases. And to your point, the cleaning it’s doing may in fact make some things worse, similar to replacing old transmission fluid with new. The gunk is sometimes what makes things work better and is masking the real problem. And let’s face it, this is a Chrysler product. The fact that it is still running relatively well after 200K is all gravy (not trying to upset Chrysler fans).

Yes, GDI engines and sticking rings can cause fuel build up in the oil and potential engine issues due to oil breakdown.

Thanks for sharing your findings with this oil. I've been considering running it. The logic behind burning oil after the motor is cleaner does make sense. I intend to run this through a 09 Civic with the R18 motor. Provided I remember, I'll try to loop back here and let you know what I think of it when the used oil comes out. Cheers

(Per Valvoline's Restore and Protect FAQ) It has been claiming: "Restore & Protect is the highest performing product in the Valvoline portfolio. Not only does it exceed all the ILSAC GF-6A and API SP industry requirements, but it has superior wear protection and, critically, removes deposits from pistons and prevents more from forming." Basically if you don't need/want to run a DEXOS rated Oil... VRP is what Valvoline will suggest. That said when the FAQ answered a question about how VRP works in Older Engines and in comparison with its MaxLife/High Mileage Oils... They Highlight the Anti-Wear Protection of both Oils but omits the "prevents leaks" advantage of MaxLife High Mileage Oils... All that being said, anyone know if the API SP/ILSAC GF-6A Specs provide some minimal "High Milage" anti-leak/seal protection so regardless if one's Engine is 2 years old or 20 so it can still perform?

@@lgoamity I was wondering about my 1967 Buick Riviera. I put Lucas oil that has zinc in it. Wondering if I can use the Restore & Protect. The engine was rebuilt in the early to mid 80's but only has 6,000 mi. on it. I could also put a container of zinc in it.

@@CHEECHMUN Suppose you can always custom add/blend your own Oil as needed... Have you had any Oil Analysis done to "verify" the Engine's condition so far? Is it consuming a lot of Oil? Having any particular ticks/noises/problems? Know that VRP sometimes can Quiet/Smooth a rough running engine... Depending on the Additive(s) suppose it might take time (a few intervals) to know if the previous change(s) are influencing the results (for good or bad)...

There are just somethings that I don't risk buying aftermarket and one of them is emission control devices. My Chrysler dealer charges double for anything you buy over the counter. I recently bought a PCV valve for my V-8 pickup truck and it was $23 including tax.
@factotumlife2 күн бұрын
I agree 100% with avoiding aftermarket emission control parts, but in the case of PCV valve for pentastar 3.6L it lists for $136 at dealer counter, I could have sourced online for $90 + shipping, but I went with the $25 Standard product.

Interesting results. I’ve seen your other vids and didn’t expect you to start burning so much oil. I started using VR&P on my wife’s CRV which was burning nearly 1 quart/1,500 miles. It immediately stopped burning oil…or so I thought. After about 1,000 it started burning oil again but at a slower rate. I’m speculating that I may have started to get oil dilution at the start and finally the rings have conditioned themselves a bit and stabilizing. I don’t think their recommendation of 4 oil changes is a gimmick. It might be necessary to fully condition the rings back to factory spec.
@zzman53064 күн бұрын
It is a slow cleaner hence the 4 oil changes. There are other faster processes but they can also have consequences.

@zzman5306 yeah but people on here get a reduction of oil consumption sooner usually, around the 6k or 8k mile mark. But usually around the middle of 2nd oil change. To remove all the deposits valvoline claims 4 oil changes.

I started using Restore and Protect on my Corolla, but my car died last night. Engine light came on the day before with P0420 (catalytic converter issue). Then on my way to do weekend shopping, I heard a strange ticking noise. I thought maybe I had hit something and it was under my car, kinda like fender liner came loose. Then on my way back home, the oil light came on and lost all power. Catastrophic engine failure. So ends my experience with trying Restore and Protect to resolve oil burning. 😢
