My jaw dropped at the Discovery Channel store. Pictures of that are pretty scarce, and here you are with a whole-ass video of it.

it makes me sad that life will never be this simple again, i think we should all feel blessed we had the opportunity to grow up in such a time, even just the sounds...... it sounds peaceful compared to a mall these days.

In my opinion every decade has gotten steadily worse since the 90s. It's not even just getting older, it's the state of society, government, etc. At least in America. The 80s were magical. The 90s weren't as much so but still great, lots of fun. The 2000s started getting worse (9-11, unpopular wars, etc.), the 2010s brought massively divisive racial, identity, and governmental politics into every walk of life, the 2020s began with a health epidemic and a war that could have disastrous effects for decades, etc etc etc. The 90s really were the last decade that had any kind of positive identity that was free from crisis.

I was a senior in high school this year, and I was working at a McD's in a mall in NY at the time. The malls weren't about activities so much as shopping as there was barely any sort of internet shopping going on. We would get CRAZY busy Friday and Saturday nights due to the movie theater right next door to us. Plus a lot of theaters actually still allowed outside food into the theater. Back when going to the movies was still very much a big deal, considering the quality of films back then being better and having to wait months and months for it to be released on VHS/Dvd after its theatrical run.

I used to work at the shopping center across the street from this mall from '04-'07 and would always go there on my lunch break. Good times catching the last MARTA at the train station behind the mall at midnight in the winter.

This was just as the Web was ramping up, digital cameras where becoming more widespread, mobile phones were getting pocket sized, personal digital devices, such as the blackberry, were appearing on the market, movie theatres were testing out digital projections while the majority of theatres were still projecting 35mm film, Star Wars Episode 1 was about to take movie making into the next cgi age, even if the story and acting disappointed everyone, retail stores still accepted resumes as applying on-line was just in its infancy, flatscreen tvs where still few and far between, Apple computer was releasing the iMac and was about to make the comeback of the century, renting VHS and DVDs at the video store was predominately how you watched movies at home, Netflix was pushing the digital envelope as you could watch movie trailers on their website and then rent the DVD which would be sent to you by mail with a return envelope so you could stuff it into the nearest post-office box to return it (no late fees). The cross-over from Analogue to Digital.

I just had the strangest feeling. Many of these people, especially the ones who here are elderly, now only exist in echoes etched in light. Except that this little record of them was created, they exist only in faulty recollection and photographs. These people were entirely inconsequential on this day. But here they're a reminder of how things used to be, and that makes them special. In all the arbitrariness, all the unimportant babble. Just looking at it is nearly enough to take you back, right? The person who recorded this probably never imagined future strangers would appreciate it the way we do.

why is no one on their phones. These days are the best any time before sucks and any time after is better. Things are way to simple now back in my say nobody knew cool fun stuff on the go they had to grab a book that told them fun facts. What a bunch of nerds. This mall is cool because of the fountains.
