The combat probably felt funky a lot of the time for two reasons: 1. If you melee attack while moving backwards, you'll do a massive jump lunge. Very finnicky and difficult to land, but apparently stronger when it hits. Since it rarely does, I'd recommend avoiding it. 2. While you were in the Discipline section of the tutorial you never uncrouched. Make sure to do so when detected because your fighting is pretty limited while crouched. That's why Celerity looked like it did nothing, crouching basically nullifies it. Also people keep seeing you because you're currently at the absolute minimum sneak level, which is the equivalent of wearing a fluorescent yellow traffic director's vest. As an RPG, it plays an unrealistically large role in how visible you are. Be prepared to get into fights until you crank up your stealth. Really excited to see you take this game on. For all it's early 2000's jank and edgy themes, it's got a fascinating story and worldbuilding.

I'd better say lore-wise - You don't have to worry about the people you're feeding from. Being fed on is actually extatic and the detailes fade away very quickly. Like drugs - after they wake up from the daze they don't remember much aside from the fact that it felt good. Also - it's ok to feed on the willing in certain situations even in public. You'll have dialog options for that.

Little tip on the stealth system: the number in the circle and light bar doesnt mean shit. The only thing that matters is the color of the circle. Green: no matter what you do you will not be noticed. Yellow: if an NPC looks at you for a few seconds they might notice you. Red: if anyone looks at you, even for a split second, you are noticed. And also, dont stay too long behind enemy. If you're going for the kill/feed, do it as fast as possible.

The number is only to indicate how close you are to the color changing - a Green of 1 has a lot more leeway than a green of 30, and a 91 Red is less likely to be detected than a 100 Red. And I realize this is an insanely nitpick thing to correct. Practically speaking the number doesn't matter.

47:52 I don't think they explain it in-game, but when you feed on someone, they kinda just remember it as an amazing kiss from a stranger. The game makes it easier (it's doesn't really cause amnesia, so feeding on a random guy could break the Masquerade) but vampires usually feed on sleeping people or disguise it as sex.

@@Myrathosghost Feeding in the club is dumb idea by the way. Tereodors might get away from it a, few times but the moment someone starts to notice bite marks before sundown that's problematic. I guess you can use presence to keep people distracted long enough until they go to sleep. By the time they wake up the mark will be gone. But yeah MOST of the times the bite causes eihoria effect for humans so they forget it happend. So feel free to sneak drink someone.

One thing you should know about unofficial patch is that, as you probably saw already, you have a choice to either install only the bugfixes or to also include some of the restored content that was removed from the game by developers. It seems that you chose to include that restore content as well. The problem is that the quality of this restored content... vary, which is why I personally preferred to play without it. While the game is still perfectly playable with it, there are some quests and scenes that modders behind the patch attempted to bring back and then they did a pretty bad job with those, so much so that I can see them dragging down the experience a little bit for the first time player (certain sidequest which takes place in Library is especially bad). I don't think you can reinstall it anyway without corrupting your saves, so it's just a little warning that if you experience in the game quests or scenes that feel very out of place or poorly designed, it's probably something that was added via unofficial patch.

No way, I just recently played Vampire the Masquerade myself! I've played through as a Tremere so far, and now I'm trying as a Gangrel. One (spoiler free) word of advice though, try not to neglect your combat skills, or else you will suffer later in the game. Looking forward to watching this playthrough!

0:40 The overarching setting and ruleset is called World of Darkness, and vampire is like an extra set of rules within it where you play as vampires. There are other rules that let you play as warewolves, mages, hunters, etc.. My favorite is actually the default where you're playing regular humans, which is a lot of fun as it's a sort of X-Files/paranormal investigators type game where practically everything in the world is stronger than you.

As a tabletop, it already had incredible opportunities to create excellent campaigns for groups of all sizes and kinds, but this game introduced so many characters that flip common stereotypes from the pen and paper game on its head and also serves as a cool primer to other creatures from the World of Darkness at large. I haven’t played this in a very long time, back when the patch only stopped the game from crashing. They’ve done a lot of work since then. For example, dialog doesn’t have an echo! When I played the game, it sounded like they recorded voice work in an elementary theater from 20 feet away.

The Ventrue clan weakness is not really "you can only feed from rich people". In the pen and paper, the player chooses a predilect prey for his vampire. That could be almost anything, "only young men", "only people with religious faith", "only rich or poor people" and so on. I suposse that they went with that choice, because it was easier to code in the game.

So excited to see you play this series, a few little quality of life hints though: - Sneaking is a legit playstyle in this game but depends quite heavily on the skill value and your own ability to interpret the display. - You can feed (F) during combat although they might escape your grasp. In any case it's pretty useful to do since it helps you heal and increases your blood pool for disciplines. - Combat's a bit janky in this game - the controls tend to be quite floaty. Quicksaving before big fights may save some frustration in the long run.

Great fun to see you learn about Vampire the Masquerade! Remember to use Bloodbuff to improve Lockpicking, and Auspex to improve Hacking! You can always attempt lockpicking on a door which is possible to lockpick, so no need to use bloodbuff if you can't even try. When you fail the lockpicking and hacking actually tell you what you needed to succeed, so that you know if it's realistic to improve skills to manage.

Just from my own experience, make sure the mouse you play with is not sending signals on it's own(well used) because it can cause the player characther to attack/beat on npc's, when you speak with them, like Jack because they do not like it

48:46 my guess is that healthy people are, well, healthy. Less impact on the blood. Well functioning liver, kidneys, no drugs or diabetes and other "impurities." Having been homeless before, quality food isn't the easiest thing to come by in my experience in those circumstances. Dental hygiene goes to the wayside for a lot of people in those circumstances given enough time and that impacts the rest of the body with infections and the like. I've never played this game and your playthrough is the first I've watched. My guess it's referencing that and not a social commentary.

For new players, more interested in minmaxing: perception and investigation are a rather useless skill, sadly. It's not like in, say, Baldur's Gate 3 where if you fail the perception check the object might not even be interactable. Unless they tweaked something in the most recent Unofficial Patch, everything is in the game, perception makes it more or less highlighted via sparkles. Even on your first playthoguh, you don't really need it if you're careful with your exploration.
