Hey friends! It feels so good to be back after a mini vacation up the west coast. I know we didn't share much during that time, but we SO appreciate all of you for being patient and sticking around.
We're finally back this week with a new van build series episode where we show you a few updates that happened off-camera, along with all of this week's progress of the van build. We're diving right into plumbing for the shower, finishing some cabinetry, laying down flooring, and completing some odds and ends. We hope you guys enjoy!

This is a very clean set up and easy to follow! I am starting to look into building a van conversion myself and, although I'm understanding plumbing more and more, there are still some uncertainties I have about some aspects that I was hoping you could make a video about to go into more detail! Here are some questions I have: - how to does the water heater work? - how long of a shower can this system produce? - how does the pressure relief valve work that you'll be running outside the van? - will the vent you attached to the fresh water cause any freezing issues since it can bring in air from the outside of the van? - since the sink side wasn't done when this video was made, do you have any details on how that process went that was different from what was done on the shower side? Thanks again! Love your content :)

So happy you guys are back and didn't decide to quit. I missed the intro from the last video love that intro, it was awesome. The van is looking great. Hey i got a question! What do you do for health insurance? How did you pay for they broken arm, through insurance or out of pocket, it happened in another state are y'all covered for that or you had to go back home to see a doctor? Anyways great video nice to see you guys back at it, (the van looks great) good luck, stay safe and be careful. Love ya all Nancy

You can tell how much time and effort has gone into building out this rig. Just out of curiosity, could you give some insight as to why you decided not to use PEX tubing for the entire build? Was it simply cost or were there other design decision elements at play? Its really incredible how much skill and knowledge one must have to attempt a van conversion. There are so many opinions and ideas out there, sure doesn't make it easy to make the correct choices. Good luck in your build!

Hey thank you so much for this sweet comment! Certain components of the plumbing actually require that you use flexible tubing to allow for vibration and movement. Obviously that can’t be used everywhere either, so we use a combination of both PEX and flexible tubing where applicable. It’s definitely a bit different from how you might plumb a house because it needs to be suitable to drive :)

Are you switching from a rear bed / garage lay out to a new bench seat design? If so why? This is just individual preference I know, but its helpful to learn what you did or didnt like from last set up. Probably has something to do with making room for the new bathroom design.. but outside of that, how did you like the last lay out, storeage was good? Your now confident everything will still have a place and a place for everything? Thank you for all the videos showing the details! That plumbing was ... WOW. Loved the cabinet build too as I didnt know to build a “face front” for hinges etc.. key element learned there, thx.

Hi Dani! The van we are building is for a client, not ourselves. So the fixed bed was his personal preference :) He is also just one person in the van so walkable space was not as much of a concern for him. For us however, we much prefer having lots of walkable space and a convertible bed that has daytime use. We have plenty of storage, especially with our roof rack. We are still living in the van that you see pictured in the thumbnail!

Love what you are doing.... One thing I saw that has me a little concerned. When you slid the refrigerator into the cabinet I was looking at the yellow electrical wire and it appeared to be solid core as opposed to stranded as is required by both code and safety.
@kensiewest
@kensiewest 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! That wire you saw is not for the fridge. The fridge runs on 12v and does indeed have a stranded wire.
@vandalorian8777
@vandalorian8777 5 жыл бұрын
Kensie & Joey Glad to hear it....it’s important that all wire in a boat or RV be stranded......also when looking at the water tank vent that it either be placed above the tank or if placed below the tank that there be a loop in the vent line above the tank.....this will prevent the water from leaking out of the tank thru the vent during acceleration or when parked on or going up hill

Great to see you're back on KZbin. I guess you're been busy doing the van build. Are you planning to go pro on the custom van buildind, doing commission work and how much does a typical custom van build cost from a custom point of view? I mean how much would you typically charge for a van build?
@kensiewest
@kensiewest 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, we are already professionally building custom vans for clients. You can find more information on our website which is linked in the description. Prices can vary quite a bit depending on layout and amenities but on average they start around $55k.
