chazinko Absolutely. Having the FWSO come in behind him and play it again with the audience singing along was beautiful. I would bet that the FWSO probably plays the National Anthem better than any other orchestra because every performance of this symphony opens with "The Star Spangled Banner" and the audience sings with them. This is how it should be done. Instrument(s) and the crowd.
@tiamia71397 жыл бұрын
I sat 3rd row at the Bass and watched Van play the Tchaikovsky in Fort Worth with the FWSO in 2001. They had a Russian gala at the Worthington afterwards and Van was in such a good mood. @tiamia71397 жыл бұрын
bwatson65 It's just not "in Texas", believe me. I am an American but I can tell you that the vast majority of Americans are loud, rude and ill-mannered. Never was this more evident than when I was in Paris. Leave the white sneakers and Mickey Mouse tee shirts at home, stop shouting in restaurants and other public places like a bunch of ingrates and, for God's sake, learn some table manners. A fork is not a shovel and you can leave a little on your plate. (No wonder most of the world hates us!)

An outstanding performance of The Star Spangled Banner, and I agree with commenters here and elsewhere that this is really how the anthem should be performed. Note that this was for the actual opening game at the then brand new Ballpark at Arlington in 1994 and not just a single game (explains Van and the conductor both in tails). If there is a symphony orchestra in the city where the ballclub is located, they ought to put together a few “combos” to generally go out and play the anthem. Baseball team management has to find about 80 artists a season to handle the anthem (usually about half the season is at home). Instrumental is a safer bet, to me, than singing artists. Wanna hear another good performance? Game 6 of the 2014 World Series, Kansas City Symphony. Fantastic

Van's playing was majestic, elegant, ethereal, powerful -- and so transporting. He had a reverent love and respect for the music. Americans should not whistle, applaud or yell until the entire National Anthem has been COMPLETED. As a veteran, I think of all those who gave their lives for that rousing anthem and those magnificent colors and I am unashamedly moved to tears. We should hold our nation's anthem and ensign in highest esteem and treat them both with the sacredness they deserve, ever mindful of the precious sacrifice made to keep them playing/waving. The breeze that keeps the flag blowing is the last breath of countless men and women who gave all for us. That flag is the proud cover of a veteran's coffin and his memorial over the hearth of that place that most feels his absence. We are all blessed to live beneath her. She's still a Grand Old High Flying Flag forever.

And when the absolutely wonderful pianist stood up and started singing the anthem with the orchestra, everyone in the bleachers joined in. These days when the anthem is played you get a bunch of sissified woke playboys that wanna kneel, and act like the white majority in America owes something to all the minorities besides just basic respect, equal opportunities, and whatever's promised them in the Constitution. And we do little to nothing about it. God in Heaven, what have we become? This video is the America I grew up in. Not the one I'm living in. 😭
