Exactly what I needed. Like you I didn't want to pay a fortune for these components and so to see it can be self made is incredibly encouraging. I will 3D print the bushing as you suggest at the end. Thanks for sharing.

2 years ago, I planned out my Van and to use 80/20 linear bearings. I was shocked at the price and now that I am building out a enclosed trailer instead, I'm moving my ideas over. This will be very helpful and saving a lot of money. As I'll be using this for my bed idea also. Thank you. liked and subscribed

Great video, good information. I am strugling with making a table saw fence, using aluminium extrusions and sliding carriages. The cost is just unbelievable, at least for the carriages, weather they are nylon slides or V grooved wheels rolling along round bars. Thanks again, very nice.

I understand the cost and how much inflation is going up Keep looking And let everyone know what you’re looking for because somebody might have it sitting around and they’re not using it. This is the way I trade with my friends to keep cost down on projects. Wish you all the best happy building

Ray, excellent decision and as soon as I heard you say $500 (after seeing prices on 80-20)...I'm with you 100%. Question: (if you are still connected) have you considered a square tube L-bushing assem? My thoughts are for the extra strength. Do you sell bushings?

I like what you did here because I need to make the same thing but I would hung them on the ceiling for a music studio to attach mics, lights & cameras, avoiding to use tripods that take a lot of space… I be interested to buy from you if you are going to make the 3D printed… I would install them into a 4040 size and I would buy at least a dozen, thank you!

i’m updating or making a Winnebago view a little bit nicer I bought a used one 2007 with a Mercedes front so basically it’s a Mercedes sprinter van 3500 I have tons of footage but I haven’t made any videos yet. I have made tables also 3-D printed some brackets, some Laser art, camera systems, etc.. Thanks for inquiring. If you have any questions and I can help you let me know.

What do you think would be the max spacing between bearing blocks? Thinking of doing something like this in the pass thru storage area of my camper.
@shopandmath
@shopandmath Жыл бұрын
It depends on the amount of weight. Keep in mind if it’s in a camper you also have to include the G force, unless it’s pinned. What is the size of 8020 you’re going to use? That in itself also flexes If you want to send me an email with your idea and I can give you a better opinion My original idea, or concept was to make a bed with a Connecticut energy lift But I decided to buy a Winnebago instead of doing the full van conversion. It is a long story. Ray

When I started planning on this Van build I how to deal to purchase a sprinter van at a very very low price and the deal kind of fell through so I ended up buying a Winnebago view, which has the front end of a sprinter and a Winnebago back There was never going to be a Motor I was going to use kinetic energy to raise and lower the bed in the form of the spring a garage door spring. Fantastic solution vs $500 for skimpy manufactured bearings. Instead of 2 rails and 4 bearing, my thought is to use 2 long bearing (more contact)...now all I need is a $10k milling machine🤣 I wonder how much to have the UHMW machined?

They can take a sheer load depending on the type of plastic, but she machine them from The style of bearing is recommended for guiding loads. They don’t really hold any weight

You should buy just linear bearing pads. It's not worth machining pastic, aluminum is a different story These pads cost about 3 $ a piece max (at 80/20 which is the most expensive), they are made to exact dimension with the right material and are super smooth.

Did you buy all the aluminum parts off the shelf? Source? We're just in the tear-down phase of our build. Gutting out the old stuff and starting from scratch. Not entirely sure what we're doing for our bed solution yet. Would like to be able to raise it to accommodate a scooter or small motorcycle, but don't know if that's realistic. Following!

first off thank you for taking the time to comment. It is much appreciated. I have a super cost savings way of producing these bearings by simply using angle brackets and 3-D Printing the bearing itself From 1 kg of 3-D Printing material I could probably make at least 20 bearings out of cost of around $30 for the roll A flat piece of aluminum in two angles, and a couple of screws. If you don’t have a shop to do this, you could go to a place like the Steele store. (this is a local place close to me.) and they would cut the material to size for you for a small fee per cut. I’m guessing you could probably produce these bearings for around $20 each, I hope that this helps, and there’s nothing wrong with saving a couple of dollars here and there just as long as everything we do is safe Ray

@@81GTUN4 If You’re using this bearing as a squish not as a pull or push PLA should be good With the bolts protruding through into the extrusion, but still covered with plastic is the safety If you’re somewhere closer to the equator, I am in Ontario Canada we don’t get that hot up here. It could be an issue with a full melt. Some of these other materials are difficult to use , but since this is construction, not art, it should be fine Do you have this material already or are you going to order it? If you have it maybe do a little test if you do let me know what works best and the failure temperature I could use that knowledge. Thank you for your input. Ray.
