I have used 8020 to build CNC machines and one thing that I've learned is that if your project will be in, on, or near anything that moves, some of those fasteners will come loose. Blue Loctite is your friend. Inevitably, the one that comes loose first is the one that is the hardest to access.

I'm glad I know how to weld and have an aluminum welder. Way lighter, and infinitely cheaper. Did my entire van with 1" square alum tubing for about $100. Great option for those who don't have access to a welder, though. My inlaws used those on their build, and turned out great, but they paid for it.

Tig welding will give cleaner welds. They make a spoolomatic that goes on a mig welding that you can use too but it's bulky and not as good of a weld visually. Clean aluminum before welding

Looks like you could benefit a LOT from a 1/4" socket set. It should be small enough to line up perfectly every time. Funnily enough, in general, I use my 1/4" socket set 90 percent of the time vs my 3/8" and 1/2" drive.

I'm on my third mortorhome and my wife, Debbie, enjoy ever minute of it from Myrtal Beach to all of the state parks in West Virginia, including New Jersey one summer. As a retired Tech Ed instructor and administrator, I've watched everyone of your You Tube posts and have enjoyed them immensely. Very interesting -- especially after seeing far too many van builds made with 2x4s! Also... And you're sooo close with the mini-me. It just needs a place to sit -- to work, prepare food, eat, relax, read, watch tv, etc. Maybe a 1/3 of the bed could fold up to become a chair? -- with leg room, armrests and an adjustable backrest. And when needed, a table top could fold down from the wall! Options! 😉

Something also worth considering with the pre-cut 45 degree braces is cost. Depending on length, they're anywhere from $18-$40 a piece while the smaller gussets are a lot more affordable! So definitely worth considering

It's quite interesting using 8020 but I do have pull you up on the tools. The Allen/hex bits etc. The funny round over ends you are using are actually called " ball end allen/hex drivers. Also when using sockets etc you do not have to use a rachet driver which has a gear set inside,you can use a normal "t" handle which has a much smaller profile and would not interfere. The ball end drivers can be bought at any hardware relatively cheap.

My favorite 80/20 trick: it is CHEAPER to get mounting plates made custom for you from places like send-cut-send than to buy them online. When you can design them yourself a lot more options for mounting positions, fastener options etc open up. All of a sudden, your structural parts are playing functional roles as well.

Subbed. I've been exposed to this t-slot. Stuff for s little while. A new machine came in and they used it on the framing. So. Ive been noticing scrapped peices showing up in the local scrap yard. My best piece was a 10 fy. Double. Width. Alot of 3',4' plus pcs. Saving for s cool work bench. Aling with the Tslot. Im beinig to se its called 8020. Nice short and some long extruded angle iron. I'll be using for corners having to drill my own holes. Hoping yo gind some plastic air line that presses in to the open slots.. just s thought.
