Say what you will about Van Damme, but the fact remains he did HIS thing. Not that I am huge Van Damme fan, but this spinning cresent kick, or whatever you want to call it, was his bread and butter. Van Damme also puts his work in, till this day he is in awesome shape and I'm sure he can still hit that kick. He'll be hitting that kick when he's 70, which he might be now. Respect the Art.

Van Damme is for real.He's a throwback realy.If you notice,in all of his movies he try's to gather real martial artist.Just like Bruce Lee used to do in his films. I remember the first time watching one of his movies.I think it was kickboxer.I was kinda young and man,was i impressed.He had me stretching and kicking everything in my house.After that,i went to the local video store and rented any flick i could find with JCVD in it. Never seen i guy so precise and in total control of his body.

Baitul Maqdis The fanciest move I've ever seen in MMA is the spinning back kick, which works because it is rarely used and surprises your opponent. It's also not nearly as telegraphed as this. But if it was used too much it would be easy to stop. It's worth risking because when it lands it is very powerful. The other fancy moves that are sometimes done for the same reasons are the Superman punch or kick or spinning back elbow/fist. Watching 80s martial arts movies is hilarious now because pretty much everyone can see how most of this stuff wouldn't work. Van Damme's most realistic fights are ironically the short ones where he straight-up punches or kicks a random goon a few times, not the 20-minute-long dance scenes where they stand there and hit each other with jumping spin kicks and nobody tries to grab ahold of the other guy or throw them against the wall or anything. And they scream constantly.

valair i do agree those superman punch and spinning back elbow fist are useful tools to use in stunning the opponents before the ground n pound comes .. On a different note , I grew up in the 80s pretty much van damme seagal stallone Brandon lee n Lundgren are action heroes I watched during my breakfast before school and dinner time chuck norris was too old school but he was the deadliest one if u know what I mean ... and van damme in a biography interview of himself , he did mentioned he tried to perfect his spinning split kick with the help of ballet movement which of coz he learnt when he was young .. and we all know by now that one can't mix fighting with dance it's gonna be a Step Up 3d match in the octagon if most of the ufc fighters are incorporating fighting with dance moves 😂😂😂 and then i start to ask questions about action stars ability in fighting when ufc one came , the one where a guy of karate discipline went into the cage with a white gii and fought an African American guy who weighs 300 pounds .. the karate guy kicked the fat dude while he is on the floor .. and his toe went straight into that big guy's right eye .. now that's real street fight there ... I puked my dinner out watching that fight and since then no more action stars for me ufc for life ... however jason stathom looks legit 😊 just my opinion on the whole action stars craze back in the 80s and early 90s

The helicopter kick is JCVD's kick now. The Karate system no longer owns it. :D While the helicopter kick is easy to evade; intercept and block, it still makes a fantastic finishing move! (I hold a black belt in Tang Soo Do and am studying media film production, i know that the kick is a staple move in martial arts films for it's aesthetic quality; and also know how impractical it is to use in an attack situation from experience) :P

VAN DAMME was a kickboxing champion before he went into doing movies, im sure he only lost one fight and maybe not even one. Most of the fights ended by K.O in van dammes favour. You think he telegraphs too much? its a film....hes trying to make it look good for a film! he also coreographed most of the fight scenes in ALL of his films with help from other EXPERTS in martial arts. Van Damme IS an EXPERT and trust me he KNOWS HOW TO KICK PROPERLY, more than anyone in this list of comments!

The spinning hook kick has Van Damme used to do them is usually efective has a counter atack move, anyone who can do them knows this, I didn´t do them with a full split (for the show) like Van Damme but I could do them pretty well and with lots of power and height :)
