Have the short handle version. Like the fact that the razor head is not made out of alloy like Bali or some of the other "cheap" razors. Less chance for a material failure in the mechanism. Put a drop of 3&1 oil down the shaft of the mechanism with the butterfly open and it will never seize up as some folks have reported. Why pay more, I have enough other things I through money at! Great review!

Local supermarket had in the clearance bin a Van der Hagen kit: 5 blades, short handle razor like yours, large shave butter and some leather thing to cover the head; all for $7.50. Probably christmas leftovers....

I purchased the sort handle today at Walmart for 18 dollars with tax and I try it nice and easy, like you said no hurry when you shaving with the safety razor blade, this you have to enjoy it. Nice video , be safe.

I recently ordered butter and oil. I used shaving cream and it just took forever man. What a mellow dude, take your time guys 😅 Well.. I was thinking it was the angle I had but I kinda knew the shaving cream was gooping up the blade. That being said I did go to town on my face with the blade and I didn’t really hack up my face too bad at all. I have the shorter van der Hagen and I’m happy with my first experience even though I had a small issue. How long do these double blades last? I’m a sucker for shaving as long as I can without swapping out the blade. I’m glad I switched to a safety razor. I got Gillette blades coming and more van der Hagen blades. Cheers my bros

Hey, Jat! Thanks for watching and welcome to the wonderful world of DE shaving! Blades are good for 3 to 4 shaves or when they start to feel grabby. Take your time and perfect your technique and you’ll be very happy! You can buy blades in bulk for better prices - I’d suggest you get a variety pack from Amazon to see which blades you like best before you go with a bulk purchase though.

Being a 3 piece doesn't make it a cheapie or inferior. I was in awe of the twist to open at first, but now find most of my favorite razors are 3 piece.

Yes - any double edge blade will fit. There are lots of great options. I like Gillette Silver Blues

Getting 2-3 shaves from one blade is pretty average. Blades are only $10 for a 100 blades.

not for nothing, the van der hagen safety razors or solid, but shave butter made my face all red, almost made me gave up wet shaving, until i got shave soap and a badger brush to shave properly!

I didn’t like the Van Der Hagen Blade’s. I usually change blades for every shave because I do reviews, but I’ve heard that some people can get 4 shaves out of them.

This is a common fallacy of DE shaving is to use both sides of the blade during one shave....use one side for the first 15 days of the month and after that use the other side for the rest of the month, this way the blade will last the whole month. I know this by experience.
