ME TOO!! True story- I'm at the vet, Blue Cross Animal Hospital, in North Hollywood, Ca. about 6 years ago. (My wife wasn't feeling too well) Someone behind the counter asks this gentleman, who's back was towards me, a question, he responded. 36 years later- I KNOW THAT VOICE!! IT'S THE GUY ON THAT TAPE! I turn around say to him, "You're going to think I'm nuts but I have 2 cassette recordings from about 40 years ago, John Lennon's last interview and David Lee Roth and Alex being interviewed, Roth goes on about the bugs, a root beer, change seats, etc..and the interviewer's voice is YOU isn't it? You're Jim Ladd.. He looks at me, with a "wow how do remember that face" say's Yes I am.. We talked for a minute about Roth, he went on how intelligent Roth really is. Told him I know, don't be fooled by the clown act. He's a genius. No Roth, No Van Halen.. Anyhoo- that's my Jim Ladd story.. I never did hold my wife down for that shot..

I remember listening to Jim Ladd here in Los Angeles one night in the 80's and he starts off his show with "I've been saving this half joint for tonight's show and right after I lit it I dropped it between two turn tables and I can't reach it..." LOL My first concert was tix I won from Jim Ladd from KMET ... STYX at the Pantages Theater...1982-3?

Too cool, this is awesome. I recorded most of the early interviews with Dave and often Al on cassette, sound quality is not the best and this is a lot nicer. By the way the singer on So this is Magic is Nicolette Larson which was found out many years later.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! This is Dave Roth's greatest interview. Had this on an 8 track that I recorded off the radio then transfered it to cassette years later. Finally lost it somewhere in a move. Finally found this a few years ago here in youtube world but just noticed tonight that it had been removed. Thanks again for posting it. This was actually the first time I heard Dave's voice! He was a total stoner dude! But still highly intelligent. Rock on man!
@STEVEHEROLD3 жыл бұрын
yeah this is directly off the vinyl that was sent to radio stations to play. picked it up years and years ago at a record show. tough for Alex to get a word in but i do love the part when Dave introduces himself as Diamond David Lee Roth and Alex introduces himself as Diamond Dave Alex

@@STEVEHEROLD 😆😆 no wonder this sounds so good. Straight of the vinyl? That's awesome man! Very cool that you have part 2. I remember listening to that live but only records about 20 minutes of it. These two interviews really need to be heard by all VH fans. In part 2 Dave wasn't quite at toasted as in part 1. Note in the first that Jim Ladd says we got you some m&ms in case you got the munchies! 😂

I heard this when I was 14 years old. It then lead me to a 20 year radio career. Met Roth in 94. Interviewed him in 2002. Jim Ladd is a legend.

@@donanger1968 Yes Jim Ladd definitely a legend. I think his intelligent demenor ( and long hair lol) made the rock guys really comfortable. At least Dave was.

Dave's description of King Edward is the most spot on I've ever heard. "Boy when Ed speaks, ED SPEAKS!"
@STEVEHEROLD3 жыл бұрын
my favorite part of Greg Renoff's VH Rising book was when Dave was praising Ed before they opened for UFO or someone in the valley and he said Ed was gonna blow their guitarist off the face of the Earth.

@@mojodojo5533 it's such a great moment in that book. I love all four guys: Ed, Al, Mike & Dave. But I always felt back then Dave was always the biggest Van Halen fan there was.
@mojodojo55333 жыл бұрын
@@STEVEHEROLD I totally agree. Just like in that interview with Ladd, Dave says " they might not be cheering for me, but I am the Cheerleader". He was the attitude and the swagger and brought everyone for the ride. Of course Ed was the musical attitude and swagger. Unmatched combination.
@walterevans2118 Жыл бұрын
@@STEVEHEROLD But ED never saw it as a ‘competitive’ thing at all. Ed just LOVED to PLAY….Same with Michael…..Ed would later say in an interview - ‘Competition ? I don’t think that belongs in music. It’s not like the Rock Olympics where someone can run faster or jump higher. Music is a subjective thing’.

I taped this off the radio onto cassette the night it aired in 1982. Still have it somewhere. I never forgot the greatest moment when Roth said "...when Ed speaks, ED SPEAKS." I think this is edited though. It seems like I remember a little more of guitar audio after he said that before they started talking again. It was very effective. Nice to have a clean version though.

Undoubtedly Dave's greatest interview!
@STEVEHEROLD3 жыл бұрын
I said somewhere else when Dave was in Van Halen there was no bigger fan of Van Halen than Dave. None of us come close. This is directly off the LPs I own that radio stations got back in 1982 to air so I can't imagine it's edited. But who knows.... thanks for checking it out James. I got a bunch of others up here hope ya check em out too.
