12:00- The VH split was t becasue Eddie wanted to be a guitar virtuoso and David Lee Roth wanted to be a pop star. It was quite the opposite. Eddie VanHalen wanted to start using more keyboards, and David Lee Roth wanted to make rock music.

The day Ed dropped his body. My daughter called me to let me know. I had VH 3 and only listened to it a few times. I put it on, played it non stop for a week. I think they should have kept going with Gary. He wrote great lyrics, Ed plays fantastic guitar on it. The songs are mature and great mix of piano & acoustic Now it’s my favorite Van Halen Lp. Garey said there’s another collection of songs in the can. I hope they release a cd of VH 3 and the rest of what they recorded

Apparently there's lots more that Ed had squirreled away in 5150. But it is or was all mixed up with all kinds of stuff but that there are hundreds of 2 inch tape up there all in rows upon rows. I'm sure a lot of is just Ed messing around trying to write a lot of the music eventually released but I hope we all find out.

Van Halen was a murderer's row of talent. What caused them so much turmoil was that each one was a larger-than-life personality and had trouble sharing the spotlight.

This won't be up here in this form for long seeing as they have used actual VH music and the Live Eruption solo. But even though it has that it's VERY Parochial. If you've been a long time fan or even watched any other VH docs this one will let you down. But there's a few nice shots and pictures. They go straight from The first album to "and then came Jump their biggest hit yet" so it's kind of lame really. Both the strength and the weakness of this one is that they have an excellent eye witness. But that's one of the problem. Only ONE and so all you get is the opinion of that one witness and not the multiple views of many. Plus they really don't look into a lot of what the guys said themselves in some cases.

@@deanrane1961 Oh No... No No No No Nooooooo Way were they ANYWHERE as bad as those Van-Hagar songs. I mean a couple mights have been catchy but they were just WAY To Pop Soft Rock for my tastes. I don't know what it was about that mid 80's period where all the great rockers from the 1970's just got weak as shit? They all started wearing those loose flowy button up shirts and styled and or shortened their hair, music just suffered so bad... then hair metal bands began following suit! For what I can only guess is because most of those OG Rockers were their heroes growing up. So I am guessing that one or two of the big hair ( no pun intended) metal acts decided that they were going to adopt the same look as Ozzy and Jimmy Page and Mick Jagger and The Van Halen Brothers were all sporting. Then, they make their first live appearance with the new look, probably saving it for a really Hot bill at the Whiskey A Go Go some Friday night, when EVERYONE who was Anyone would be there and depending on how the females in the audience acted.... and what the scenester journalists wrote in their weekly nightlife articles, would decide how many other of the big and growing big acts would fall in line behind them and also adopt the new look. And I guess it's pretty obvious how that all went down. 😂

@@ABoyandHisDog-pd3lb Agreed! When these Gen Z kids look back at 80's music with rose-colored glasses, I always try to explain to them what a hellish time the mid to late 80's was for music - with maybe the exception of GNR's "Lies" & "Appetite". I mean you can tell those dudes were seriously influenced by 70's bands like Aerosmith in their heyday & the NY punk scene goin way back with protopunk & metal acts like The New York Dolls. All the other shit in the mid to late 80s was corporate or just plain industry plants.

@@deanrane1961 basically yeah, you had Guns and Roses or Janes Addiction or Red Hot Chili Peppers (pre Mother's Milk days) and that basically described the main tribes of Los Angeles's 3 newest rising stars who were basically dominating their club scene. Obviously there were other popular acts coming up but those 3 were the ones riding tidal waves of popular growth.

So if that story is true about the moment eddie and alex decided to switch instruments alex saying he came home to see eddie still sitting on his bed and having learned all of claptons crossroads in order lick for lick . If that's true then at that moment when it became obvious to alex that means up till that moment alex was playing guitar and as this story suggests alex must have been pretty damn good on it or the decision to switch would have happened the moment eddie was better than alex on guitar . so lets see alex play something that would be good enough for this story to be true. Its bullshit story they made up . Just saying.
