There is no one ever before or after better than Edward when you combine it all. There has never been anyone to bring a guitar to life like he did. No one.

In my opinion, Eddie was a Guitar God! He didn't invent tapping, but he definitely revolutionized it. He inspired many of today's guitarists. Saw Van Halen in concert and they were amazing but his guitar solo was absolutely epic!! Eddie is the GOAT! Unfortunately, he passed away in October of 2020 and he is definitely missed! RIP King Edward!

You have just watched the greatest guitar player that has ever lived. KING EDWARD. Most people will agree that he has like no other guitarist before and most definitely after him. He passed away 2 years ago and music has not been the same ever since. He was selfxss taught and never had a single lesson besides being a accomplishment pianist and designer and inventor of music and guitar equipment are some of the very best made. Guitar World magazine called Eddie Van Halen "the guitar GOD!!" He was a musical Guinness and a musical savant. He played the guitar solo in Michael Jackson's song "BEAT IT" that shocked the whole world and left them speechless and scratching their heads on who wrote the solo for Michael Jackson. There are videos out there that you can watch and see how excited Michael Jackson gets when Eddie is playing the solo. This solo is considered the very best solo that there has ever been.

Loved watching your mind get BLOWN! Eddie is THE G.O.A.T. when it comes to Rock guitarist performers. The Band is Van Halen and His name is Edward "Eddie" Van Halen. He and his brother Alex Van Halen (drummer) formed the band. I heard he went to a Led Zeppelin show and watched Jimmy play and do one hand finger taps, or "hammer ons" and then he started trying it and using two hands, teaching himself all those different styles. He started playing piano then was the drummer while Alex was playing guitar, then they switched. :}

You listened to one of the best people that picked up a guitar to entertain others. Ed had a musical background, classically trained pianist from the age of 6. He excelled with music throughout his life. Rock music is what caught his ear after that and he learned all the rock music he loved growing up. You'll find many imitators, but they can't replicate his style and tones. If you really like rock music and what you heard here, check out their first album titled simply Van Halen. It was released in 1978, and to this day, is one of the best debut albums ever made. Let me put it this way, Ed is great, but the band they formed was a super group. If you're into rock music, you'll have that same look on your face listening to the album. Van Halen was so successful because nobody ever heard anything like this before, they were a party band that didn't know when to stop, and Eddie taught himself how to play music that nobody else could touch.

I grew up with these guys in Southern California and heard them play before they ever got a record contract, and I may be bias but Eddie is the greatest rock and roll player that's ever been and ever will be. RIP Eddie. Truly a one of a kind.

It is so fun to watch peoples facial expressions as there brain tries to process it all . Eddie was the first at many new things and a true legend and KING of the hammer ons . I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and they were SO good ! Just awesome to see younger generations discover this man and his many talents .. RIP Eddie you will be missed Sir ! Great reaction !

This solo came from the band's two-night show, 1986 in New Haven, CT. If you paid attention, Ed's cig gets tossed twice because the footage was from both nights. The original solo was made wildly popular when it came out on Van Halen's debut album, but was never intended to be included as an album track by the band, because it was just Ed's warm-up exercise. Ted Templeman, their producer, heard Ed playing this and immediately decided it needed to be recorded and published. That version is only a minute and a half long because they were recording for mass release on vinyl and cassette tapes, so data storage was crucial. Nonetheless, Eruption literally changed everything about guitar from the moment it was released. You are in for a lot of fun if you choose to go down the Van Halen rabbit hole. Your reaction here was the same as it was for everyone in '78 and since. Eddie was also a brilliant songwriter, keyboard player, bassist, even played drums a bit, and could play nearly any instrument he wanted. He contributed a free guitar solo to Michael Jackson's mega-hit, Beat It. Look up Steve Lukather, who tells that story and played rhythm guitar on that track. Have fun & cheers from Texas.

The year was 1986, the solo was made up of instrumentals, song intro's, and different styles that he perfected. He forced the industry to find a different way to put this on paper. I was fortunate enough to see this 3 nights in a row off this tour. EVH was a hero to a lot of guitar players. Such an amazing talent that will never be seen again.

1978 thru 1992 and "rock", easily the Golden Age and greatest years. I love Alt and Grunge that follows, but it was never the same or duplicated in pure sound and kick-ass rocking out.

The original Eruption was an intro solo , short song and on different albums he always had on or two little intros, so this is a mash up of quite a few different ones . I saw him once live and he didn't disappoint.

Ace....your reaction is priceless.....facial expressions and all......Eddie Van Halen is one of the cleanest guitar players I have ever heard. He never misses a note......he is 100% stone cold real rock !!! He is half Dutch and half Indonesian and when he came to the USA from The Netherlands he could not speak English and his dad played on the boat coming over for their fares. Eddie put in major time with the guitar. He has earned every piece of fame he has gotten. Check out his dad on the Jan Van Halen video that is going around. His mother was Eugenia Van Beers. Genetics gave him a start and he took it to miracle status. He will always be one of my favorite guitar players for as long as I live. I also prefer David Lee Roth to Sammy Hagar.

Two interesting points 1) during the creepy part (9:45) he reaches into a cavity on the back of the guitar and plucks the tension springs to make that deep sound. 2) "Cathedral" (10:50) - Ed is not picking the strings. He is "hammering" with his left hand and twisting the volume knob up and down with his right.

Eddie was trained as a real Classical pianist. And because of that, he said, "I'll show you piano on my guitar too," when he wanted chicks at school. Hahaha. He did know tapping guitars occurred before, since original classic Ragtime. So, he wanted all a different sound of bass, lead, and rhythm, and his unique sounds of the "wind and string instruments" were all tributes to his being raised by his father, a Classical composer of sorts. Jan Van Halen played the clarinet, I believe, in Big Bad Bill, Diver Down, and may have assisted in others.

60’s or 70’s? LMAO Well, Eruption was first recorded in October of 77 but how does someone not see the difference between late 80’s and 60’s video footage? And you should put up a backdrop up or something, it looks like your in a Serial Killers bedroom. Long live the King EVH 🎸🎹
