You know, the amazing part about this solo is that Eddie doesn't even use his 3rd finger in that wide stretchy part. I was watching his solo from the US Festival and he stretches his first finger 12th fret, to 2nd finger 16th fret, and 4th finger 19th fret, and continues to the lower strings. His hand at that point kind of remind me of when the Predator took off his helmet for the first time and you see his crab like finger face. That is one impressive stretch Eddie had and to be able to shred the way he did was crazy. Long live the KING!!

Thanks man, best lesson yet. It always kills me the little nuances that EVH had in his playing that drive that feel. if you try to cheat using standard patterns and riffs, you lose a lot of that feel. You captured it all here, with a great flow and vibe - not forced at all! Big kudos...
@mKreifeldt3 ай бұрын
I’m about to try to tackle this one in my lifelong quest to be able to play all of vh1…if anyone else just can’t make that huge stretch 12-19 without pain don’t risk tendinitis you can cheat by just tapping/pulling off. Won’t sound exactly right of course but it delivers the effect and you can just make up for that by nailing the rest of this killer solo. And kudos for working this out! Frustrates me to no end with all the musical education I’ve had I’m absolutely dysfunctional when it comes to figuring out songs and especially solos.

If you don't mind Mr. PDX, if your students are having any sort of trouble figuring out where Eddie has come up with his Mountainous and Wondrously Amazing guitar solos, here is a brief explanation. Eddie and his brother Alex were both subjected to their father being a full time musician, they were as children made to take CLASSICAL PIANO Lessons for 6 years if I am correct...... Eddie's foundation is actually classical, thus his expanded notes by using and being played in the "Finger-Tapping" format... Now add in riffs of the Blues always using triplets which sound much more than just 3 notes. Due to Eddies speed and dexterity this was part of his Ultra Feee-Nominal addition to a background of Classical, Blues and Soul! ....Not failing to mention that Eddie Van Halen is in a tie with Jimmy Page for being 2 of the Greatest Rhythm Guitarists to ever grace our Ears and this very Planet!.....Thank YOU PDX, let us NOT forget your amazing Guitar Skills that allow you with ease to bring us to life the very Mystical Edward Van Halens skills and songs..............We Bow to thee Sir PDX..... God Bless!!!

I thought I’d never be able to do the stretch but I sit my guitar up on my left leg as my left foot is resting on something higher (approximately a foot or two off the ground) with my guitar vertically like Eddie live. It’s sounds awesome with delay and a phase 90! Thank you for the correct version yet again for the most difficult tab; more so than Eruption for me. I’d still love to hear Van Halen’s D.O.A solos :) even better would be the whole song except for repeat parts. There’s a lot of cool transitional licks in that song.
