this is proof that no one else could ever be the true voice of van halen

Pure rock and roll. Attitude, presence, passion and irreverence, of course voice and music. One of the best moments of Van Halen and David Lee Roth. This is a classic.

David Lee Roth gave it his all on this performance. Although I have always liked him, i now like him more than ever and I give him even more respect than he deserves, because he deserves it all.

I grew up listening to this group. They definately have five stars. They certainely dont make music like that anymore. You were right about that critic, you go Dave!!!
@ktcolo112 жыл бұрын
It's called entertainment. And giving the band a break - part of the singer's job. Plus it builds the intensity of the song. When you're there right in front of it live it is awesome. If you just want the song then stay home and play the record...

I love all the haters! HAHAHAHAHA. This guy made millions and millions of dollars acting out a character and getting laid and drunk and high the whole time. Even better yet he survived to enjoy all those millions!!! The haters are sweating their car payments and all they have to say is shit. LOL. I too think he was a little pricky but you know what. He did much better than I or most will ever do so kudos to him, plus the music Van Halen made was such a huge part of my youth to top it all off.

A lot of porn stars make millions too by taking it up the pooper, I think I would rather sweat my car payment then be a clown ......

Diamond Dave was no clown. People were in on his gag, and we enjoyed most all of his rambling. He also had good pitch, a core self-deprecation to offset his stage ego, and admitted to young trauma (which most people are honest enough (at least with themselves) to admit to having experienced and, thereby relate with him. The crowd loved a communal flip off to their personal life’s “critic”, & he then respected each bandmate’s contribution. While short lived, DD’s Van Halen run shown loudest, brightest &, refreshingly, craziest. 🤟🤪

I was at this show in Largo, MD. A very vivid memory. After we parked at the Capital Center we drank beer in the car and heard of Roth showing up at the local liquor store to by a Fifth of Jack Daniels on what may have been Q107 FM radio. How his blond hair went down to his ass and all. My friend Floren was like Spicoli in those days. He had the tickets, the connections, etc...The police made us poor out our beer at one point which may have been a blessing. After filing in to the concert arena we sat at the upper front deck, house left. I was told the folks in front of us were smoking PCP at one point. I had no idea that was possible? It was an all out assault the entire night. Dave ranted and raved all night long and put on, "A Show". During one encore I gave Dave a double fist pump and he looked right at me and returned it. That was the best part. Eddie was always doing his best efx parts in the dark which annoyed me. Especially on, "The Cradle will rock". Otherwise it was the goofy grin. Ice Cream Man seemed grander in person. Just Sharing.

I can recite van halen line for line and note for note. I have studied all albums and bootlegs for years. I know all the trivia, the lies, and the secrets...But I have NEVER heard Eddie play like he does at 6:28. I'm a pretty good guitarist, and I know a lot of good guitarists. All the years I have thought Eddie was never capable of modern shredder style speed and I find this after all these years. WOW! That was a true gem. Thanks for the upload.

toolvool finally someone that makes sence, sure van halen weren't as big as zeppelin, and 99% of the people would laugh if you use van halen and zeppelin or floyd in the same sentence, but if you put it in perspective, eddie is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, (in my opinion the best) DLR is the best front man a band could ever have, michael anthony has the most distinct backing vocals, and alex is just incredible (search ou812 drum solo) you'll see what i'm talking bout, vh for life

There were more kids that went out and bought a guitar because of Eddie than ANY guitarist bar none. I was one of them. I heard him for the 1st time in 8th grade back in feb of 78 and heard eruption and couldnt even fathom what the heck he was doing. Greatest rock guitarist of all time. I love Zep, they made great albums that stood the test of time but Eddie influenced more guitarists and changed the whole genre single-handedly. just an awe inspiring player.

I don't know about you but this is the first time I have seen Dave play the guitar. Even if you leave it at that you can't say that he plays guitar better than singing. You see the tuning Dave has his guitar tuned to makes it easyer for a beginner guitarist to play a simple blues pattern like this song. The tuning is so simple that if someone who can play the guitar really well tries to play this simple blues pattern it makes no difference in difficulty or even makes it harder. Dave can sing

They were AWESOME in Oakland Sunday night! Love Dave's dogs as I also have a herding dog, a collie...would have never guessed Dave was a herding afficionado.. Van Halen spoiled me for all other R&R after I first saw them in the early 80's at the Cow Palace

This is what VH was missing when that other guy was their singer. What a great performance! DLR had style, and VH was just as much his band as it was Eddie's. They were the perfect combination of raw musical talent and raw, testosterone-fueled power. Dave's voice was phenomenal here.

So Roth actually played his guitar onstage ... who would'a thunk it!? I was aware of the legend that after a concert Roth would sit back in his hotel room and play old folk songs on his guitar, but that the band had no plans for Roth to play on stage. Quite interesting. More importantly, a great performance!
