@TerryThomas-vl6xe9 ай бұрын
David Lee Roth said in an interview as anyone who knows a decent amount of the bands history would know that this song was a result of the club playing days and even before. They use to play bars, backyard keggers and private parties , weddings , .grand openings of malls , muffler shops , pretty much anything this side of street corners with a change bucket in front of them . Not only was it anything goes , it was also anywhere you want it that they would do , Eddie once said yeah for a time we were doing things like loading up all the equipment, spending $30 in gas , to drive an hour or more one way , to a gig that paid them $50 - $60 for the gig and if they were lucky the would get fed and all the beer they could drink ( but not always) and after gas and a few misc expenses would split the left over $20 bill ., 4 ways and that’s if some equip didn’t breakdown , or one of theirs cars didn’t breakdown , anyway you get the picture . I would still love to get ahold of a copy of the band playing ( Get Down Tonight) as it use to be a staple of their set . But anyway I’m gettin out there . So Dave once said they played a Mexican Biker Bar or community Center , and someone thought it would be a good idea to thrown a little Latin music in there for the crowd , what started out to be a song dripping with Spanish flavor , a kind of light poppy Ricky Ricardo BaBa Lou type of thing wound up being Jamies Cryn kinda thing. Unfortunately for our south of the border friends and their associates , about the only thing Latin that remained in the final on the album version of the song was Alex’s BaBa Lou like drum intro . But the song was a result of traveling all over to play any place , to play in front of anybody , anytime for practically any amount,. ! True nomads , faithful Gypsies to the cause. What’s really a trip to know is that from about 1976- thru 78 , they were a small venue garage band basically that had 10 times more talent and character than 9 out of 10 acts that had “made it” that you were hearing on the radio ! But you can’t hold a Volcano Power 10 force of Nature inside of a Power 5 container for very long . They were notoriety and financially starved and when it was decided to water plant , it sucked up thousand gallons of water without a blink , due to their professionalism that they had mastered in all of those hole in the wall “ hey baby doll , what’s a package like you doing in a place like this “. Joints . A true quartet forged in the ovens of diversity ! For absolute certain , there never has been and never will be anything remotely like them . If the rest of the world wants Led Zeppelin ( who I dearly love to death ). , then take them , I’ll take Van Halen . That’s Van Halen , you know , the meteor that hit planet earth in 1978 , causing more Global changes than the meteor that hit the Yucatán peninsula , wiping out the Dinosaurs 65,000,000 years ago !

I worked with Michael Anthony's brother, Bob (Sobolewsky), in Monrovia, Ca. One day, Michael dropped by the building we were working at. He came to give his kid brother a brand new Chevy Blazer for his birthday. Michael Anthony is a great guy and very approachable. It's been two weeks and I'm still crying over Eddie. The world isn't the same without him. He was one of a kind.

@Spermwhale1000 Hello again! Last week you replied to my comment on a different Van Halen video and we exchanged a few replies, funny we should see each other again (not literally, but you know what I mean). I feel exactly the same way, so I'm glad I'm not the only one.
@Ash148514 жыл бұрын
@Spermwhale1000 I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of you right now.
@Ash148514 жыл бұрын
@Spermwhale1000 That's horrible, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hate to admit this but I actually tried to commit suicide once (about a year and a half ago) and listening to Van Halen was one of the main things that helped me get through it and slowly recover over several months. For that reason, I think the band (and Eddie in particular) really helped shape the person I am today, and I found Eddie's death so devastating not only because he was so talented and legendary, but because I feel a strong personal connection to his music after it helped me so much during an extremely dark time in my life. Once again, I'm very sorry for your loss. Like you said, it's good that you found out after the concert, but that doesn't make it any less tragic.

Love the look, the cloths, the gear, the first album was lightning in a bottle, the chemistry is undeniably right on perfect! The greatest Rock and Roll band in the history of Hard Rock ! Gotta love the 70s, the decade spawned the best of the best! I lived it, I saw it all happen, this band and many others brought me on one helluva ride!

I wonder how many Jamie's David Lee Roth made cry back in those days. This song was always one of my favorite Van Halen songs, brilliant lyrics and the fact David Lee sings them and probably wrote these lyrics is just a little bit strange! haha.

You gotta give Dave credit for unabashed expression. I'm not threatened by any sexual mode, and he's testing life to the fullest. I may not ever do what he does, but he's pushing things like a true pioneer who is exempt from my judgement.

Dave took up the gauntlet of Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, and other pioneers of *'holy shit, rock and roll is sexy, fun and dangerous and will probably piss off your authority figures...'* I remember feeling a lot of this when I checked out some bands and concerts in my teens. It's a feeling of freedom. Today's music, man I just don't know. But some kids are checking out the old stuff.
@Piaseczno14 жыл бұрын
I thought so until I watched and listened to him at three different concerts in the 1980's. Crappy stage behavior and demeanor, too high to sing well and generally insulting to his fans in attendance at the show, but the rest of the performers were good. DLR is today an idiot in full bloom and now withering. Like Madonna and many other even much younger "stars" he should hide out and just live normally til the end to shield himself from further embarrassment.

Lyrics: She saw the look in his eyes And she knew better He wanted her tonight And it was now or never He made her feel so sad Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Now Jamie wouldn't say, "All right" She knew he'd forget her And so they said goodnight And now he's gone forever She wants to send him a letter Just to try to make herself feel better It said, "Give me" ("Give me a call sometime") But she knows what that'll get her Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Now Jamie's been in love before And she knows what love is for It should mean, a little, a little more Than one-night stands She wants to send him a letter Just to try to make herself feel better It said, "Give me" ("Give me a call sometime") But she knows what that'll get her Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin' Oh, oh, oh, Jamie's cryin'

I can't believe how upset I am about Eddie passing away. The sound of his music was the background to my childhood growing up with my Dad who would blast this all the time. Then on top of that, a lot of MY musical influences were deeply inspired by Van Halen....then I think about his family. His son....god damn. RIP Eddie.
