Why Wolfgang? I can't wrap my head around it. I mean if the band wanted a replacement on bass then surely they would want someone seasoned who's been playing for years building up a resume. Even the Mac chose longtime professionals when replacing Buckingham. Here's my take: it has less to do with MA and more to do with the three in the EVH household. Maybe Eddie wanted to do something major with his son. Maybe Valerie was complaining that Eddie doesn't spend enough time with Wolfgang. Not judging anyone and all the respect to EVH who is no longer with us but I just never understood MA being replaced by Eddie's son.
@TheMadness51503 жыл бұрын
Wolfgang is the one who motivated Edward to make music again outside his studio, rather than just jamming to hang around with his brother. Remember at the time, he was fighting his own shit after what happened in 04 tour, and he never left the studio, it was just Alex and Eddie, like the bonded brothers they were. Wolfgang put the fire again in Eddie, he made the setlist, helped him remember some songs he didn't play for 20+ years, and they were that way more than a semester, the three of them, before even thinking about Dave joining back. They were jamming Sammy's songs too! And Dave being in the band was Wolfgang's as well. From this moment on, including the album and tours, was because fuck yeah, Eddie wanted to play with his son, but because of his son, he washed his face and put himself back in the greatest shape in (then) 10 years.
@TheMadness51503 жыл бұрын
And we can argue for years that Michael was a truly team player, but he wasn't seen with the greatest eyes from the brothers. Cutting himself some royalties in 98, releasing himself of all in 04, was not the greatest way to thank your 25+ years bandmate. Eddie was a bit special (for not using other words) about what he considered loyalty and stuff, and seeing him play with Hagar on the hiatus years prior to 04 really pissed the hell out of him, and considering Mike normally flew with him on that last tour, didn't help to ease the mood I believe. I don't own the truth, I'm just saying what I've read multiple times along the years. And listening on what Wolf's been saying all these months, if it wasn't for him jamming with the old guys, not even the 07 reunion was going to be possible. The Kitchen sink reunion was on the talks when things went south, but how many years later after this, to make Eddie think about a possibility of getting back Anthony in the band, and mostly because of Wolf's request, again.

@Diem Golightly I know cause you got fired up, too. Brothers made little money from the first 6 albums. Al was almost broke in the late 90s because of divorces. Eddie made some money from the deals he made with instrument makers. That’s the main reason they had to put up a cardboard cutout on stage (or was that a real singer??) to do those greatest hits nostalgia tours.

@Diem Golightly I agree that the tour grossed. I am glad Dave saw some spotlight. He couldn’t sing, and that band was no longer Van Halen.

If that argument helps you accept this version as the mighty Van Halen, good for you. I saw the mighty Van Halen. Dave’s version in the late seventies and the early eighties was mighty. I saw them with Mike and Sammy, that was mighty. That was “four giants walking on stage” and the audience felt it. For millions and millions of people this version is a family affair. I am happy for Dave who was financially in bad shape before this reunion. But, to keep the memory of the mighty Van Halen I will ignore this, if you please.

@@gokhanersan8561 They made little money from the first 6 albums bcuz Sammy stole $300,000 of it from them.

@@gokhanersan8561 They actually lost money the first 4 or 5 albums BUT just 2 albums outsold ALL the Van Hagar era COMBINED : the first and 1984 albums . Ed didn't always make money endorsing . He endorsed Kramer Guitars for free so they wouldn't raise guitar prices .

Dave can’t shut up, it’s not all about him. Also that bug was super awkward.

Hagar was better songwriter & musician but when it comes to performing, the Van Hagar concert era was boring that it put me to sleep. Dave was a great front man. We'll see if Dave still got the goods.

Lest anyone think this tour will last, let alone the band you will be sorely disappointed. I'll give it 3 months til' DLR & Eddie are at each other's throats. Hope I'm wrong but this just seems to good to be true..Mark my words.
