To this very day he's by far the most imitated and influential guitarist in world history . Nobody comes close and that includes Hendrix.

Mr Van Halen left a very special mark on me when he indirectly inspired me to build guitars. I had a hard time getting what I wanted out of store bought instruments, when Mr Eddie did a video on guitar making and how he had the same problem. After his motivation, I learned how to do it, and since I have made several guitars, and exactly what I wanted. I make sure I give Mr Eddie credit for changing my life in more than just his awesome guitar playing. I'll never forget him, and hope someday to cross spirits with him.

That struck me too. It drives me crazy because its misleading. He had studied proper music extensively, before he became the "just a punk kid who plays guitar" ..and revolutionized the instrument both from a technique AND from an equipment perspective. Young people need to understand that you dont get born great. It's really not a casual thing to become that good. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work before you can be at the top and say casually "I'm just a punk kid who plays guitar"

Same. Been thinking about him a lot. Both his parents have passed & now the only person he shared those childhood memories of playing gigs with, & moving from Holland to America, is gone too. I believe this is gonna bring him & Wolfie even closer.
@gr8guitarplayer3 жыл бұрын
I've been thinking the same, somewhat knowing what's it's like, having lost my younger brother to cancer last year, and we were both in construction. I was 12 when he was born in 76, and my parents allowed me to name him Gregory. I found one of his first paystubs when he came to work for me right out of high school. He went on to do his own thing, so we weren't nearly as close as Eddie & Alex, but for a long time I would forget that I couldn't call him any more when I wanted to talk shop. The hardest thing I had to do was go get his trailer of tools and bring them from his job to his house, then go through and sell a lot of his stuff. So I can imagine what Alex is, and will be, going through. Probably a big reason why I've been watching so many VH vids the last few days, and why it hit me extra hard.

Had Rhoads lived long enough, we may have been able to compare the two fairly, but EVH had staying power over his entire lifetime. Had Rhoads lived long enough he very may have, as well, especially since he was successfully able to change bands. You are absolutely right that Rhoads was a true phenom and, for a brief time, the two of them were contemporaries and both extraordinary. Rhoads was one of the few guitar gods who died so young due to someone else's reckless and senseless hubris, and that may be the biggest tragedy of them all. I think I was 14 at the time and even I couldn't believe how stupid that bus driver was (and when a 14-year-old thinks someone is reckless and foolish that's pretty sad because they don't really get consequences for action yet at that stage of neurodevelopment). Thanks for your comment and the reminder about Rhoads. I have to admit, though, it just made me so sad to revisit that bright talent whose light was snuffed out too soon.

I've been into this band since MTV actually played music videos. Might have been the 80s..lol. I don't think they'll ever get old to me.

If I coulda said one thing to Eddie 40 years ago it woulda been " Quit F'ing chain smoking Dude !!"
@jillh74033 жыл бұрын
I've noticed in most of his interviews he was smoking. Rip Eddie. 💓 Can't judge, just sad.

You'd have to cure him of the anxiety he was suffering through life first.

That would have stopped him.

They had an unique marriage! Apparently they both had affairs while still together. He was quite the different kind of man! Eddie was even quoted saying that they were more family than being in love.

Yes indeed,it's just a mixed up of so many interview that i've been watching myself so many times...But,what i fing outrageous is the fact that there is not yet a "Van Halen" square or street named yet in Pasadena!!! It has to be done!!! Or has it been done yet? Hi from France :)

This interviewer is great because she also comes from a musical family. She is Arthell Neville, daughter of Art Neville of the Neville brothers. Her uncle, Aaron, also of the Neville Brothers, sang a famous duet with Linda Rondstadt, “Don’t Know Much”.

When Eddie Van Halen past. I realized in 1977 when Elvis died my mom was crying heavily when I walk through the front door. and said ma why are you crying when you don't even know him. It's sad to say now I know why she was crying it was a big era gone by in her life which is the same to me with Eddie Van Halen

OU812...that to me was their best album after Roth. Each singer brought their own unique sound to Van Halen. But this is for me what I`'ll always remember them for.
