This a great example of just how good Eddie's rhythm playing was - soloing aside.

Right. He was a a rhythm player who could also solo. His groove and swing were like no other.

@kristoferbatdorf2873

Fuck yeah man, Little Dreamer is a sorely overlooked Van Halen song, that riff is just so dark sounding, I tell people this and people think I'm crazy, that song is so heavy, when I say everyone thinks I mean fast and like metal heavy, and that's not what i mean, it dont have to be fast to be heavy, here is just a heaviness and a darkness to this song, but its wrapped up nicely in weird poppy kinda sound. I love Little Dreamer

Great track! Fair Warning has a lot of tracks with cool instrumentals. It wasn't a huge seller at the time - but a favorite among guitar players. Dirty Movies (also from Fair Warning), has a slower groove, but is a bit more intense than Push, and other-worldly guitar guitar.

This song showcased how their songwriting had matured quite a bit by 1981. That's something they lost with Sammy Hagar, despite being commercially successful. Fun fact: Eddie didn't really want to do this song, but conceded and ended up coming through like a champ. Aside from showcasing a more worldly Van Halen lyrically, it proves Eddie can phone in a solo and it'll still be smokin'.

You don't even have to leave this album to find that. Michael Anthony's bass on this Fair Warning album is pretty prominent throughout too. "Hear About it Later" has a killer breakdown in the middle. "So This is Love" is a little more up-tempo but Mike's bass sets the mood (There's also a live video of this song from the same concert you reacted to "Unchained". This song translates well to a live performance). "Dirty Movie's" has more of that build up intro you're looking for that breaks into a heavier riff(s). Just an all around great song from the musicians standpoint. "Sinner's Swing" is in your face killer riffs from the word go. "Fair Warning" is my favorite VH album, hands down. Sorry I'm rambling on, I'm a VH nerd. I just love watching people hear VH songs for the first time, especially someone with your technical background. Your facial expressions say it all. Every VH fan has had the same exact face. Keep up the great reactions.
