Right now is a fantastic song by Van Hagar. I love the piano, how dramatic the song is, and the ethereal break in the middle before the guitar solo.

Ah, this takes me back to the Summer of '86. I couldn't believe DLR left VH and couldn't wait to hear what they sounded like with Hagar who just had a major hit with "I Can't Drive 55". The result was amazing... this song was the first single and our first taste of Van Hagar and it delivered big time. The rest of 5150 is very solid and you can hear the joy in their playing and songwriting. Great pick and reaction!

Sorry, I’m not trying to pee on your appreciation for Sammy’s role in Van Halen,they just became a different band. I came up with the original band and they were huge,when DLR Quit the band 1985/1986 became the Sammy era and Eddy wanted to play keyboard songs and Sammy went along with it and they had good radio friendly music and there’s nothing wrong with that,it’s just different and it hasn’t aged well whereas the Original lineup’s records have outsold Sammy’s time by a huge margin. Every generation needs there hero’s and if you came up during the Sammy era it’s only natural you would say that time was better because it’s what you grew up with. It’s all good,plenty of good stuff for everyone
@dipsydoodle79889 ай бұрын
@@basher5107 crying the same old lame river like so many others that choose to forget Sammy was the only member that changed and the band was still Van Halen. It's an insult to the memory and talent of Eddie to say that HIS band became lame after a new singer joined. People like you will never understand that tho, so, its your opinion...that's all, just your opinion. You can write 10 books and still not convince someone that disagrees with you, so let people have their own opinions.

Alex had a very distinct snare and hi-hat sound, which told me I was hearing a VH song just as much as the guitar or vocals. "Sinner's Swing" is a great deep cut off Fair Warning that shows the band's jazz background. Superb!

The Story: In 1985, Sammy Hagar’s Ferrari BB 512i was in the shop for a tune-up from his mechanic, Claudio Zampolli (who also appeared in the music video for the song “I Can’t Drive 55”). Van Halen happened to be at the shop that day and admired the Ferrari. When he asked Zampolli about the car, the mechanic said it belonged to Sammy Hagar: “That’s Sammy Hagar’s. You should call him and put him in the band.”

I’m a fan of the Sammy Hagar era of Van Halen. You have to remember that all of the high screams in both eras was the bassist Michael Anthony he hit all the high notes. Another tidbit was Alex started o guitar and Eddie was the drummer but thankfully they switched and the rest is history.

The Really Awesome Thing about How Much Sammy Hagar brought to this Band gave Eddie Van Halen a whole lot of ways to create his Music when it was finally announced and Sammy Hagar was replacing David Lee Roth I was already a Huge Sammy Hagar Fan and his Solo popularity was big and the Tour Schedule was announced The Album 5150 had not been released yet this Song was hitting radio stations and such a different sound but You still turned up all the way the very first Van Hagar concert with Sammy Hagar Singing was Shreveport La. Only 60 miles from my hometown and I had seen so many Great concerts there Eddie Van Halen’s wife was from Shreveport and a lot of her family still lived there funny I remember going to a Van Halen concert there with David Lee Roth and I went to that show and Valerie Bertineli’s Brothers got her to come home and get them backstage and she had never been to a Van Halen concert but Eddie and her met and Why can’t this be Love so 1986 I had gotten my tickets first thing and didn’t know any other new Song just this one and Sammy talked about how scared and nervous he was Van Halen came out first Song they played live as a Band was a Sammy Hagar Rock Anthem Only One Way To Rock Sammy was one of the very first to have a cordless microphone he was also an accomplished Guitar Player and he was Always all over the stage when he was at nearly all the Texxas Jams Big Music Festival in Dallas Tx at a Football Stadium and he would start climbing the scalfold to top of lights and they incorporated a stair well that would come down and he would be Performing at Top of lights and I believe they played 1 more of Sammy’s solo songs I Can’t Drive 55 and they were So Good they Played every Song off 5150 that night and the crowd was hearing for first time and they nailed it So Good crowd was Loving it and they played 2 older Van Halen Songs Anit Talking About Love and Panama the last song they played from original Van Halen was Jump only because all the back and forth crap that was being said between Van Halen and David Lee Roth Sammy picks this big ole kid with a big belly to Sing Jump on stage I actually got to go to the very 2nd concert with Sammy singing David Lee Roth had put a Band together with Steve Vai and the name of his Album was a nod to Van Halen called Eat Em and Smile to mock Eddie so Van Halen’s second album was named OU812 a answer to Eat Em I got to see that Van Halen tour again at The Texas Jam saw tour 3 times was Incredible Professional Musicians All The Way. I Loved the original Van Halen I was 16 when they released first album and was already a Really Big Rock Fan but hearing that Guitar and Erruption first time back when released Wow and I got to see original Band a few times first time at a Texas Jam Sammy Hagar played a couple of Bands ahead of them I was not much a Diver Down Fan so many covers but Fair Warning was Awesome and I skipped HS to drive to Dallas to see that tour David was to drunk couldn’t Sing When Eddie came out to start Solo David stopped him twice and Eddie walked off so for 10 or 15 minutes David stumbled around stage opening his flap to show but that was so Disappointing and have seen him a few more times he was Good on his Solo a tour with Sammy Hagar Apologize for writing a book again just had to set up what was going on at that time. I Just Love watching Your reactions I can tell you have Great taste in Music having Fun reliving this Incredible Music!

I love this version of VH, otherwise referred to as VanHagar. I actually enjoy both versions, with DLR and with Sammy as lead singers. Part of why DLR left the band was because he did not like the synths part of Eddie's music. But I love it, much like when Rush started using more synths back in the 80's.

Why not show her something that emphasizes why he was influential as a guitarist - like "Eruption", which spawned the whole two-handed tapping era. Then check out the 2 albums Roth did with Steve Vai writing and playing all the guitar parts. Vai's impression of a laughing guitar on "Yankee Rose" is pretty funny, but I wouldn't choose that as the best song. There were many fast unison passages with Vai and bassist Billy Sheehan, as on "Shy Boy". Sheehan did the same later with Paul Gilbert in Mister Big. There are quite a few examples of a rockier side of Vai you might not have heard, plus some identifiable Vai melodies , with songs like Big Trouble, Knucklebones, Skyscraper, Damn Good (with its acoustic and backwards guitar parts), and many more. If you haven't heard them, they are worth hearing at least once. Then there is the album he did with Whitesnake, Slip of the Tongue.

Not a Hagar fan. The dude never shuts up about a band that dumped him over a decade ago. He loves to play the victim, even after writing a book in which he slams Ed and Al (not just professionally, but mostly personally). In the end, no one but Mike Anthony wants anything to do with his toxicity. Enjoy Van Hagar... I never have and never will. Looking forward to more Classic (real) Van Halen reactions! Don't forget the final VH studio album. In 2012, Roth returned to take his rightful position as head quarterback after Wolfie suggested it to his dad and uncle. The album, A Different Kind of Truth, is another masterpiece like the first six albums. P.S. If anyone wants to argue about Hagar/Roth/VH, save it. I realize that people have preferences. It would be like trying to convince someone who loves grape jelly that it sucks and they should enjoy strawberry preserves, instead. It's useless.
