Unfortunately I haven't seen an equivalence between Iranians and Palestinians. Every Iranian I've ever met hates their government and their government's mission. I've rarely ever heard Palestinians completely disagree entirely with the mission of Hamas (no peace no matter what). It takes a lot of effort to find one who won't say all Jews need to leave even if explained a scenario of a unified government and freedom of movement and Palestinians.

Yeah, I watched this interview and had the same reaction. I was surprised that the interviewer did not push back on the flawed notion that Hamas and the "Palestinians" are unrelated. As a progressive who understands progressives I see what Van Jones was trying to do because it is hard for him to not see Palestinians as an oppressed people. So, how do you free them of blame? Point it all at Hamas. He's a smart guy and I hope someone works on Jones to convince him that the rot goes beyond Hamas and into the general population.

No, the UN charter (article 80) recognized the land was to be reconstituted as a Jewish state (it is nicknamed the Jewish clause of the UN Charter.) This is based on the League of Nations Covenant Mandate for Palestine (The British were Trustees, the Jews worldwide were beneficiaries.) In 1937 a Peel Commission recommended a second partition (the first gave the Arabs the land mandated for a Jewish state in the east bank of the Jordan river) to divide the (Western Bank) between the Jews and Arabs. This never happened. in 1947 the UN basically "recommended" to do the same thing at the General Assembly. This partition scheme (that is what it was called) was rejected the Arabs worldwide who organized an "Arab Liberation Army" whose symbol was an arabesque dagger stabbing a Star of David. They invaded in 1948 and were defeated by the Hagana/Irgun/Lehi before May 15 1948.

I’m surprised at such vitriol in the comments against Van Jones. He has been a huge supporter and advocate of Israel and American Jews, well before Oct. 7th. If you listen to that whole interview, he details how he became involved in learning more about Judaism and participating in traditions and holidays. He has also been very outspoken in his support for Israel post Oct. 7th. He was one of the first (and maybe only) in U.S. media to call the attack on the synagogue in LA a pogrom. I didn’t find anything he said in the interview controversial or lacking knowledge of Israel’s fight for existence. He gets from where and why there is violence and hatred from one side while the other protects its people. I fully disagree that he ‘doesn’t get it.’ We should uphold such allies, not denigrate them.
