I know this is kind of a weird thing to focus on but the way Van Jones speaks is so interesting to me. He's clearly an extremely intelligent man and he expresses himself in a very southern plainspoken way and I find it fascinating how he makes such great points and delivers them in a way that is relatable to most of us. It's just fascinating.

Totally agree. We need to focus on the long game, but many liberals get caught up in the short game. This is where you build the foundation and success in changing the party. Burning the house down is not going to achieve anything. It's simply going to create a vacuum where people like Trump will fill and then we will be saddled with horrible policies and Supreme Court justices for decades.

@rachellock4940

I put a quick post above on why I think he was right to favor Clinton. As he says in the interview, LBJ was an old racist white guy, but he was willing to be influenced by protests in the street. Do you honestly thing that when the orange guy gets into power he will be influenced by anything other than his own ego? At least there is some hope that Hillary will concede. But only if we continue the movement that Bernie started! We have to take to the streets, it has to happen, or real change will not take place. Believing that Obama on his own could change Washington was a ridiculous pipe dream. There was never any follow-up, because we felt that having voted him in, it was sacrilege to criticize his policies. As Van says, that is nonsense, we needed to reinforce what he was doing and wanted to do, by protesting in the streets to let those in power know that we meant business. Look, my kids and I drove 14 hrs to go to DC and protest the Iraq war. There were MILLIONS of people there, and yet we watched and railed at the mainstream news, who reported, some 10,000 protesters!!!! So, it is going to take civil protest at an unprecedented level to get them to do anything!

Van Jones doesn't realize it is hard enough for people to take off of woek to vote! Let alone do constant protests! We should be able to elect officials that are willing to change things for us! +Killer Valentine And it is NOT FEDERAL it varies state to state. I live in South Carolina and i just looked it up, there is no specific law requiring jobs to give time off. And jobs are usually not required to give you time off if they open 2 hours after polling stations or close 1 hour before polling stations. With record voter turnout, and polling places being cut up to %66, that is not enough time for a lot of people.
@Mareepu
@Mareepu 8 жыл бұрын
+Killer Valentine , I get it. But state laws specify whether those hours are paid or unpaid, and how many hours. Depending on one's economic situation, and the convenience (or lack thereof) of polling stations and DMVs (for states that require ID), it might even be nigh impossible.

I'm never sure what to make of Van Jones. He's very articulate, and seems likable, but there always seems something a little off in his attitude. He's right about reducing the prison population, but doesn't seem to get the overriding importance of getting money out of politics. When it comes to Obama, Van Jones is far too forgiving. Obama has done/not done many wrong things when he was not forced to. And no one made Obama surround himself with conservative economists and bank people. And so on.

I'm in the same boat as you. I definitely had a different opinion of him prior to this interview. He is a bit more likeable to me now, but seems to avoid the controversial points in his own messages. I feel like he possibly might've been better off before he got picked up and associated with some of the parties he used to be against. Now he finds himself having to marginalize is own ideals in order to stay relevant. He's definitely an intelligent person and I can respect that. Still keeping an open mind. Thanks for the interview TYT.

I don't understand the point of this interview. There is nothing immature about Bernie Sanders or the people who voted for him. And the reason we don't have more MLKs is because they keep on being assassinated.

I actually have some respect for Van Jones, which is more than I can day for anyone else at CNN. He may not be exactly what I would prefer him to be, and we may not agree on every issue, but he is the one person who stood up to Clinton supporters on CNN panels on a consistent basis. When they say something about Bernie or his supporters that is not true or is misleading, he most often calls them out. I respect that.

This man makes us ask a lot of questions we completely forget about in our need for change. We need to stop looking for enemies (because we already know who they are) and start looking for friends. Don't matter if they are liberal or conservative. What should matter is who should I work with, and does this person or these persons want America to be a better and safer place for everyone?

Best TYT interview yet. Van speaks for me completely. As a black man i often ask myself if citizens united was overturned and money was out of politics and no more corruption in wall street, would that change the racial stereotypes or the way white america sees blacks? Would it change the attitude of the police and stop them from racial profiling? would it make the white woman in the elevator less likely to clinch their purse when i get in? and i believe not. So from my perspective as a black man i see racial justice first not economic justice which involves wall street reform and getting corruption out of politics. Thats why many times i couldn't relate to mr sanders or hillary for that matter, i wished they talked more about racial justice police brutality, profiling, prison sentence as much or even more than they talk about the economic justice. If citizens united did not exist would that have stopped the 5 conservatives on the supreme court from gutting section 4 of the voting rights act allowing racist voter ID laws intended to hurt minorities be implemented? No. Would al gore getting elected have stopped it or john kerry? Possible, because they would have appointed justices that were more kind and would protect voting rights. So that is why i say i will vote hillary because i believe while not perfect she will move this country forward if only in the voting rights of fellow men.

"If it becomes too self righteous and we're just looking for enemies to blame, we might miss that internal reflection moment." This is exactly why I don't like either side of these issues. Everyone gets so caught up in fighting the "evil people" and the "corruption", that they forget what it really is they're fighting for and they become the enemies they're fighting against. Van Jones is really the only thing I liked about CNN; him and Fareed Zakaria. I wish more pundents would look outside their own boxes like these guys do. I hope TYT can learn something from this guy.

I like Van Jones but he has a blind spot when it comes to HRC and the Dem Party. As an attorney he should understand better than most how serious the FBI investigation is. Based on the known facts the criminal investigation should lead to an indictment as a matter of law. How can he ignore this? Does he believe political expediency will trump the law?

I think Van is wrong about Obama. Way too many excuses. And having a movement to push president to do the right thing is a misdirection. Why can't we have both? A president that is a leader, and a movement to back him up?

***** Who tried? Obama? You've got to be kidding. As soon as he got into office, he surrounded himself with people who crashed the economy, like timothy geithner and larry summers, people who like to strong arm liberals who are also insensitive to race issues like Rahm Imanuel. And the list goes on and on. And Obama preemptively compromised with republicans. Republicans even bragged that they got 95% of what they wanted from from Obama. The grand bargain for you. If not for republican stupidity, he would have even cut social security. That's not what a leader does. About a movement. He had one, the one that got him elected. But he forgot them, abandoned them. Movement was rather weak, so you need to nurture it. But Obama killed it instead by constantly throwing liberals under the bus, just like he did to Van Jones. Shame he got so domesticated in the process.

Van Jones talk about the positive for Trump and negative for Hillary but was almost at the end. Agreed with Trump on the economy and trade deals but not on the wall and racial issues based on his personal experience as a colored person. People keep calling Trump a bully but he can't be a bully because those people actually have power at best he has an aggressive tone.
