How Did We Get Here?

After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! This is going to be our 3rd time converting an empty cargo van into a campervan and we are both excited and nervous to take on this project. We want this build to be the ULTIMATE OFF-GRID VAN 🚐

First off, THANK YOU for addressing that "Black Lives Matter"! I've been a fan of the E-man and the Beckers for sometime now!!! It's unfortunate that we even have to say a black life matters. But American history tells us that color has a rating system and if your brown or black you're not rated as a first class citizen. I am a Black Woman living in Newark, NJ. Not gonna lie to you I have experienced prejudicy throughout my life. Some discrimnation for the color of skin by white people and unfortunately discrimination from other black people for not acting more like the color of my skin. But you guys (Eamon & Bec) and your channel has always tried to bring cultures together. Not just saying this to make ya'll "feel better" in your whiteness. It is truth!!! When you travel and you show us your interaction with people from other countries you two address people like PEOPLE! That's why I truly like your channel. I know you guys are white in color but your BEHAVIOR transcends your color. So when I watch your videos I really dont witness your color I'm witnessing your loving behavior. You guys give hope, possibility and lots of love! Yeah, I am a Black Woman in the US and I am angry about several injustices I have experienced while being in this skin suit but I cant let that stop me from liking ya'll or hating all white people. God the Father's Love is stronger than that!! So E-man and the Beckers...keep educating yourself about the history of black injustices to make you more aware of the pain inflicted on others considered less than by the color of their skin. Keep doing this. But don't feel guilty on what others have done before. Hold family & friends accountable when the pre-judge someone by their skin color first and above all keep doing what ya'll do best...travel, show others how Van-Life is possible and keep that music lit(seriously)!!! Kenyan fan and I totally understand some of the pain you've faced due to racism and an unjust system (although definitely not to the extent you have, I'm sure) that was built to ensure things remain unfair as we have, according to some statistics, experienced the most recorded deaths at the hands of the police since the nation wide lock-down was initiated. As a black woman, I'm constantly made fun of because of the way I talk, the way I choose to dress, the things I enjoy doing that are all seen as an attempt of me wanting to be anything other than black which couldn't be further from the truth. It's very refreshing to see allies like Eamon and Bec whose intentions are obviously genuine as they have proved themselves to be so in every video unlike the sad majority of influencers we're now seeing declare their solidarity in fighting police brutality and in supporting the BLM movement for fame and clout or copying what they see as being "on trend" without doing their best to educate themselves more about the movements they claim to be in support of.

Our office neighbour is a rubber mattress seller and he's currently cutting us a few pieces to fit this new design so we just have to be patient... we'd also loooove to get a mattress on there for mid-work day naps 😂

Bec, I hate to say this, but you really need a slot and a slightly loose screw instead if a hole in one end of each slat. That will allow them to compress flat and give more spring to the mattress. Much more comfortable.

Daniel Willyard currently there are wall plugs for cars. if you could get a wall plug on the outside of the van, you could charge anywhere. it wouldn't be continuous but it would eliminate the search for a gas station

Oh yes Julia how I can relate!!! There were many incidents as a kid where I’d be super upset and scream at my dad across the dinner table for his chewing and everyone thought I was crazy so learning the term and that it’s an ACTUAL condition was SO helpful in explaining how it all makes me feel!

Hi Julia, as I said under another comment I suffer from misophonia too and I tried neurofeedback and it helped tons! It's a therapy usually used for tinnitus but now they are starting using it for misophonia too and since it worked for me and I know how bad it can be to live with misophonia I hope it may be a possible "cure" for it

#BlackLivesMatter. It’s always good to educate yourself or others when you aren’t sure about the history of racism that black people have gone through. It is terrible that even to this day that it goes on. I will forever be an ally to people of all race, religion, and sexuality, because at the end we are all humans. Although he is now retired, many of his stocks are still invested in Home Depot and he spends millions on endorsing Trump. I know this doesn't encompass the whole company, but I hope you consider going to another store. A great alternative would be Lowe's who is run by a black man and is a big supporter of the BLM movement! He has also donated 25 million to minority owned businesses!

I suffer from misophonia too and it was sooo bad and neurofeedback helped me a lot! It's a therapy usually used for tinnitus but they are now trying it to help with misophonia and in my case it worked!

I too suffer with misophonia. If you ask my hubby he would say that I nearly rip his head off when he chews loudly or with his mouth open sometimes. He also bites his nails often and I can hear that too so once again I rip him a new one but in a loving way. Nails tapping on a table or surface drives me batcrap crazy as does clicking pens. Man I see red with someone does that over and over again in an office situation. Sometimes I just want to cry and other times I just remove myself from wherever hubby is eating and go where I cannot hear him but headphones sound like a great idea lol. Michelle

Wow, it's so cool to see the van build it's coming together. it looks great! I really hope that I can do a van build one day :), thanks also for commenting on black lives matter..I'm a criminology major and throughout my time in college I've learned so much about the mistreatment of the black community by the criminal justice system & the police and have researched extensively on it. I actually entered my degree wanting to become a police officer, and find myself leaving college now wanting to defund the police. Education really does makes such a difference, so thanks for sharing those resources :)

One of my absolute favorite times of the week. I’m a senior this year and graduating high school, I’m really trying to form a plan that I can get my own van and convert it ASAP. I want to travel but I’m doing a 5 year college plan starting this fall. I’m really hoping I can still get there by the end of my college career, maybe sooner but I don’t know when I’ll be able to.
