VAN LIFE Clearwater Beach. One of the worlds best beaches.

Stayed in Jervis bay back in 2000. I was doing a diving course and was there for weeks. We used to walk to the beach with our dive gear and go diving. Lots of leafy sea dragons off the beach and the odd wobbegong shark. We'd also go off to the seal colony at the entrance to the bay and dive with the seals...a very sharky spot. On another dive we found dozens and dozens of port Jackson sharks laying their eggs in the rocks. A few days later we bumped into a BBC film crew who'd spent a couple of weeks looking for port Jackson sharks laying their eggs and were able to drop them right on the scene. The footage was used in a BBC wildlife program that I've watched(forgotten which one) One of my fondest memories was the bays dolphins. We'd go out in a twin hulled dive boat and the dolphins would ride the pressure wave...could almost touch them as they were a couple of feet away when the boat pitched. I'd sit watching them mesmerized as they played. Jervis bay was a major whaling centre back in the day. They used to bring the whale carcasses back to process them there. We were always told to search in the gutters on the sea bed for white shark teeth as the sharks would be attacking the carcasses and losing teeth in the process...they can collect in the gutters and were sometimes found apparently. We never found any though☺️ Great memories from this place.

You've certainly got some nice memories of Jervis bay mate. Diving around the bay, especially out out the entrance would've been awesome. I'm always a bit paranoid about sharks these days. I remember being out at the entrance in my mates boat and was shocked just how deep it was out there, even though we were only anchored about 20 feet from the base of the cliffs edge. I remember my son jumping in for a dip, and I was pretty keen to call him back into the boat. Even though it was around 100 foot deep I remember being amazed that it was clear enough that I could still see the boulders sitting on the sand at the bottom. You've made me think back, probably about 10 years ago when we had a nice little runabout that was big enough to go around the bay in (Quintrex Coast Runner). I remember getting up really early around 5:30am and launching my boat to anchor off the beach at Callala. It was Christmas holidays and I thought achoring just out from the boat ramp was a good idea as the ramp gets super busy all day around that time. Before anchoring and going back home I thought Id just go for a quick lap around the northern area of the bay. It was a beautiful sunny morning, bay was flat as a tack so I did my lap heading over to Long Beach & off Honeymoon Bay. As I was motoring along I was joined by the friendly dolphins riding my bow wave for a few kms. I was absolutely stocked, and remember this as one of my best days out. I still love JB, and often miss my old boat. Thinking maybe one day I`ll get another one and relive these types of memories. Thanks for sharing your experiences mate. This was a great video mate. You explained everything in great detail and I love the voice overs and change ups of scenery. I liked your spot and the synthetic grass. The dune gas stove is the same as I have at home. Great little things to use. I rarely use mine now as I enjoy using the induction cooker and someone else’s power. Shame it rained for you but if your like me it doesn’t really matter as I’m still away enjoying the time. My day is full of assessments that are due Monday. This was a nice break to see someone else enjoying a little getaway and having hopefully a few beers or maybe some of those 196 drinks tucked up the back. Enjoy your weekend mate. 💯

at 6:57, great outdoor stove setup. Are you still happy with its performance? Do both cooking tools come with this stove setup (square flat plate and baking/frying kit with lid)?

This is a great little stove set up. I really like it. I actually have a webber q stove that i thought was the best you could get BUT it takes up a lot of storage room and is too big to fir under the seat and doesn't really fit into the overhead compartment with all my other gear. I took it out and brought this little double burner stove with us a few holidays back and actually found it better in so many ways. The biggest advantage is that its smaller and packs away into a nice little carrying case. Yes it does come with everything you see the single removable hotplate as well as the caserole dish and glass lid. It runs off the little butane cyclinders that aren't bulky like the LPG cyclinder you need for the webber. I take off the hotplate and cook bacon and eggs in a saucepan for breaky and have also cooked a lot of different dishes in the caserole dish. To be fair the webber probably does do a better bbq but in saying that I`m not a huge steak eater these days and the new cooker seems to suit me better. I never thought I`d want to sell my little webber but I really cant see myself going back that way. The new double stove was about a third of the price too. I think we got it at Bunnings.

@@TropicalZooms many thanks. It’s definitely a winner for the limited space you have and fits perfectly on the outboard fold out ledge. Just on the internal space bit, it seems light on for storage space. How do you and other RM20.5 users optimise internal space for clothes, food, and other stuff? Do you bring your bikes inside during the night, even if they are locked up on the outside bike racks?

@@Camh1968 Morning mate. As far as internal space and clothes go I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist. I fit everything I need in the lower cupboard opposite the fridge. My wife on the other hand uses the cupboard above that as well as the one above the fridge. As far as the rest of the van goes I always say we can fit everything you need but not necessarily everything you want. The bikes I always leave on the bike rack. I cover them with a bike cover but also bought a 2 metre length of high tensile steel chain that I also wrap around the frames and padlock to the tow bar so they’ll be extreme difficult to pinch. We’ve had the van 3 years now and very happy with it. The sacrifice in size is more than made up in convenience as I love the fact that I can easily park in most areas, at beaches, boat ramps and lots of regular car parks. I never ever feel like it’s two small. We even have inflatable paddle boards stored in the overhead Luton so I can still go play in the water. 😃👍

@@TropicalZooms hi mate. Many thanks. Yes, storage of items will definitely need to be creative. Do you think a full bull bar is needed on these RM20.5s if doing long distances? Would a nudge bar be ok for mounting Radio antennas? Will you be installing any bar on your front going forward?

@@Camh1968 I’m actually thinking about a nudge bar or a bull bar. A lot of people have told me not to worry if I’m only driving through the daylight hours bug after accidentally hitting a possum in my car a few months back I’m a bit paranoid. I’m thinking about an alloy bull bar to keep the weight down, as others have told me if I go a big heavy steel bull bar I’ll have to upgrade the front shocks which would double the price. I think an alloy bull bar would cost around $4000 installed. I think a nudge bar would be about $1500.
