I found quite a few lovely camping spaces as I traveled across the country a few years ago. Two favorite free camping places we're both in Nebraska. Both of them were in city parks with just few camping spots. Less than 10 for each of them. They needed a little bit of driving to get away from Highway 80 where I was traveling, but not that much away. Both were there as a way to tourists to the area. One was little further away from the tourist area, and one was right in a little small town right on the main street of the area. Both of them had electricity available for at least some of the camping spots, and both had bathrooms. One originally had showers, but it had been boarded up, but the toilets worked fine. The other one had showers and toilets. Both of them had, I think, a 3-day limit. They had a honor System registration and it was free, but there was a donate option at any level. Since I used the electricity to store up all of my devices including my jackery, I went ahead and donated on the one that I used electricity. The other one, I parked in one of the spots that didn't have electricity as I got there very late in the day and was planning to get up super early the next day, so no donation. I did go buy some groceries in that town. There are so many amazing apps out there to help find wonderful places to camp for free. I've always thought that the East Coast was the only place it was REALLY hard, but I haven't done a lot of exploring all around. I did a three-month trip in 2021 and most of that time I was staying With Friends. I mostly just camped on the drive from Florida to Michigan where I have family, and then out to California to see friends. I drove Highway 80 going west, and then took Highway 40 coming East. I chose Highway 40 because I didn't want to travel in Texas, especially in August. Although it was quite warm a little further north, it was at least not quite as bad as it could have been. Though I did getting a hotel twice on the way home from California to Florida, because it was just a little too hot in my minivan. I think when I go full-time I will be going with a bigger rig. I've realized my goal is not to live out in nature, but just have an apartment on wheels. So I will be going either with a high top van or a small Class C. I would prefer a van I think, but I don't feel like I can afford the build-out in a way that I would like to live with it, and and I can get a 3 or 4 years old 24-foot RV for around 40 to $45,000. This will allow me to have the lifestyle and looking for, which will include using the dinette to do art and make jewelry I was just my hobby and side hustle.

At Hiawatha for 6 weeks this summer using the campgrounds. Usually $22/nite as provides a bit more formal camping experience and located at "nicer places" - like sites right on Lake Superior and Lake MI. Even these campgrounds you are a fair distance from towns & supplies. To get anywhere its 40 miles plus round trip. Boondockers but they were even further "out" and mostly in wooded areas so need to be VERY self sufficient. Recommend visit Fayette Historic State Park a genuine abandoned ore town. State Ranger gives guided tours several times a day. Many tourist attractions are $15-$30 per person maybe a bit pricey. Most lighthouses (125+ in Michigan) are free as are the many many waterfalls. Addition the local grocery stores all had nice deli's with reason priced prepared meals a nice option to combine with what's in your grub box.

You're so lucky you have all these great places to stay for free. In the UK it's getting harder and harder to find places that don't say 'No overnight camping' meaning you can't park up and sleep overnight in a car/van.

We have to be careful that doesn’t happen here. Sometimes people forget what a privilege our national forest are here and abuse the land. I mean… we do pay for them through taxes, but it is a lovely benefit to enjoy them! But we could lose the privilege if we don’t take care of them.

Come hang out in Montana this is the perfect time of year❤ I'm building out the Sprinter and emptying out the house I'd love some encouragement😂 I ain't as young as I used to be LOL but I've got to be out of here before winter hits😅 two maxxair fans are in as well as two bunk windows with 360 on the roof and two hundred amp hours❤ now it's time for me to do the walls and the ceiling and I have everything I need accept a kick in the ass and the threat of winter😂😂 I still go back and watch the foraging videos you did with that lady up in Canada🎉🎉

❤❤ that is one of the first places I'm going to head when I come back next spring❤ I had some company visiting from Santa Barbara a couple of weeks ago and I told them they had to do the Hiawatha🎉 two kids that had four bikes on the back🎉 I told them to make sure when they go up and down the mountain that he's following the bus🎉 wait at the top until the bus goes down and then follow it🎉 wait at the bottom until the bus goes up and then follow it🎉 anybody to watch this video and wants to go to the Hiawatha that whole road down below where she is it'll also take you out to the main Highway at the bottom but do not go up and down that mountain unless you're following the bus that takes the bike riders up and down because the road is not wide enough for both😂😂😂😂 the shuttles run all day long you don't have to wait very long but believe me you do not want to meet that bus because there are very few places where it's wide enough to pass and believe me they take precedence
@justjudy7320
@justjudy7320 11 ай бұрын
Yeah the beginning of the video which is the bottom of the road along the creek is nice and wide but honey once you start climbing that mountain to go up where the tunnels are in the bike trail start it is not wide and you don't want to meet that bus😂 this is so fun I can't wait to go back it was one of my favorite places

Every national forest in the USA has dispersed or ‘primitive’ free camping available. We pay for it through our taxes. You just have to find it-most people don’t realize that it is one of the best benefits we get for our tax money, though, so I wanted to show how to do it☺️

Great video, I love free dispersed camping. What brand is your mosquito jacket? I was in Colo. and got bit many times around the neck and on my scalp(they were crawling through my hair) by buffalo gnats. They produce a bite that's as bad or worse than a mosquito. After first getting bitten, I put on head gear with a net but I'm looking for a little better jacket. Enjoy the rest of your travels, take care.

Hi Dee, long time no see, ive been so busy between work and waiting to get my van done, etc. Its been too hot here in Odessa TX and recently starting to cool down some, so on my days off from work i can pickup where i left off plus i also gotten a vintage 87 Excel 5th Wheel RV 26ftx8ft, its adorable and a new remodeling and repair project that will not be used for traveling but as atiny home here on my dad's (almost my property in near future that'll be my home base) so i got a lot of fun projects to do as i go along slowly but surely. 😉👍 i always enjoy watching your video contents when i can in between all going on. Thank you for another great video. Eucalyptus, peppermint, lemongrass, lavender all seem to detour mosquitoes and other pests. I love Dr Bronner's soap because just the scent that lingers is usually enough to send the cloud of bugs to other warm blooded creatures nearby and away from me. Thank you for mentioning Outdoor Ethics and Leave No Trace, there is also Thread Lightly for more motorized outdoor pursuits. Thank you again for taking us along with you on your.

@@LadyBugout Eucalyptus and Cloves are my favorites but peppermint is not far behind. When I was at the City zoo when my children were young a Koala bear tried to leave it's handler and climb onto me! The Aussie handle just said "that's a first", LOL I just smiled and said I smell like food. One of the single mothers said I wonder if I pour beer on my self if the handler would cuddle with me!. I about lost it, but managed to explain I use Eucalyptus soap.

Beautiful forest! Requiring 2 bars on your phone would really limit your boondocking in Northern CA. I rarely find signal outside of built areas, even in state parks, because of the ruggedness of the terrain both on the coast and inland. I’ll see how that goes next week, as I will be trying non-campground camping for the first time. Thankfully, I have my hyper alert puppy with-she’s like an a early warning system.

Great video, as always! Very informative as I head out in the fall, hopefully. You make me wish I had saved money and bought a smaller van, though I like being able to stand in my promaster. The sacrifice may have been worth it. If I ever do another one, I will definitely copy yours. You know what they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery….flattery in a good sense, that is! A question….how much water do you have to take for 2 weeks primitive camping? Thanks again for a great video…I look forward to every one. You have greatly inspired me having watched your films since you began. Christine
@LadyBugout
@LadyBugout 11 ай бұрын
Hey Christine, I love promasters too! Good choice. The general rule for water is 1/2 Gallon per person per day (for drinking). Then figure out what you will need for cooking, bathing, etc. I usually have all my thin containers filled (which is about 5-7 gallons depending on how full I can get them). I sometimes stop at a gas station beforehand too, and pick up a couple water bottles if I don’t think I will be able to refill somewhere along the line. But that is rare. I have several ways to filter water if I should be in a situation that necessitated it. Hope that helps.
