The bottle recycling system is so brilliant, they also have it in all the Scandinavian countries. Luckily, a bottle recycling scheme will introduced in Wales, England & Northen Ireland in 2023! 👍✌

Wild camping is illegal in Germany. If you ever get waked up by police officer in night time, you must tell that you got tired while driving and just taking a nap, otherwise fine is guaranteed ;) They are much more relaxed in summer season time. But you must remember wild camping is illegal, taking a nap if you got tired is not. Also never stay in same place for two nights if you do wild camping. And don't leave any items outside a vehicle, as this would indicate you are actually wild camping.

Just stumbled across this thread on KZbin...so glad I did as I love your content. I have now subscribed as I will be buying my van next year and can't wait to get out into Europe. Although i am British, I was born and raised in Germany and I can concur, it is a most beautiful country and the people warm and friendly. I left there in 1985 and have a burning desire to return. I think that will be next year all being well. Keep your excellent vids coming

The way you described the bottle recycling system is missing a key point. You don't get paid to bring back the bottles...you get money back what you paid when you originally bought the water. Example: one bottle of water costs 0.19€ + 0.25€ pfand. So when you buy the water you pay 0.44€ and when you bring the empty bottle back you get the 0.25€ Pfand back. But otherwise it's a great video!

We're headed to Germany in a few weeks!!! This was a great video to prep us before we arrive. We are going to ship our van from Canada!! Thanks, great video!!!

If you don’t mind me asking, how much did it cost for you to ship your van?

I really wish the Uk would adopt that bottle scheme, we were in Scandinavia and it was such a good idea, there were people who would come and scan in hundreds of bottles, it helps out so much!!

They did in Australia. They give you 5p per bottle but all bottles went up by 10p so you pay 5p to waste time lining up “recycling” lol all recycling is a scam

I use it as emergency food money.. like i have no money.. but have lots of bottles.. i used that to buy food@@benbullock2281

It's very interesting to hear how people from other European countries experienced Germany regarding van life. I'm thinking about moving into a van (full-time) but right now I live in a flat in Munich so it's still just a "thought". I know there are downsides to it but I still feel it might be worth a try even if it's completely different from a trip, if you really live inside a van. ☺️ So if there's anyone that can tell me more, please reach out!!

Hi, so have you moved into a van yet? I'm thinking about that too, but it seems more easy in the US Greetings from the Blackforest

@@katumankaiku9319 hey there, not yet, but I bought a transporter to convert it. 😅 It will still take a lot of time to get there but I'll try.

haha, nice to see an ethusiastic review of my home country. Sometimes its just helpful to get your own home being introduced by the fresh view of a total stranger - completely different perspective. 👍 So, great to see you had a good time! It is my impression that over the last generations folks have become much more open minded and internationally oriented. Thats a great development. Sure, we tend to overcomplicate many things (zones...), but sometimes even usefull systems turn out (recycling). Regarding your 'addiction' to the seaside (which I fully understand) I might recommend checking out the northern states of Niedersachsen (North Sea), Schleswig-Holstein (both North Sea and Baltic Sea) and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Baltic Sea) with their huge stretches of coastline. 👍👍 All the best and keep on vaning!

Whislt I am British, I was born and raised in Germany. I absolutely lived my 21 years living there. I haven't been back since 1985 and from what I've read, there have been changes to the country. For anyone else looking to go, it is a fabulous place and the German people wonderful.

Recycling Incentive in Germany yeah no NOT really the government literally forces you to do it by charging you for bottles that were free before this system. Ontop comes that it makes ZERO difference people who recycle get punished by needing to make an extra trip to return bottles even tho they have an extra bin in front of their home for recycling and people who don't care about recycling won't change their mind because of 0,25cents that they lose on every bottle.
