Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. As a semi-minimalist, I eventually decided to donate/sell most of my belongings and move into my 4x4 Nissan Xterra. After 14 months of SUV living and falling madly in love with the open road - I bought a van and hired a team to build it out. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world on a whole new level, all while having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road 🚐

Pure art. Every shot is a painting. The cinematography, the colour grading, the editing, the sound design - everything is so well done. Knowing that it’s worth it to send a drone up high to shoot a beautiful overhead that’ll be a one second shot. Christian - Echoing the sentiments of MANY commenters who are inspired by your storytelling posts… you’re an inspiration and one who has perspectives, authenticity, ‘raw’ sharing, and joy that resonates with us all. Living on the road and creating content day after day, year after year, with your ability to support yourself is based on a social media platform's willingness to put you at the top of the list must be exhausting. Constantly seeking adventure, putting your most intimate thoughts and feelings in front of hundreds of thousands of people, and processing this alone can't be easy. Doesn't hitting the offramp for a season whilst resting and recharging your batteries in a familiar place seem appealing at this point? With the skills you have developed, you can write your own ticket and work as much or as little as you like. Keep your van services, clean, and ready for adventure. Each moment in time is unique and the passage of time is much more noticeable as you get older. I have had this discussion with my wife a lot as we get older. Most things are perspective and as you get older, the amount of it you carry with you is large compared to the moments you experience. You can really see time moving at 50! I try and enjoy the moments, diving deep into them and I am always trying to find something ahead of me to be curious about, excited about, etc. I am learning to sail, like really learning with instructors and getting out there to hone skills. I found new magic in that feeling of being carried by the wind, fine tuning the sails to push me through the water. I am thinking I will use that skill to push us to new adventures in a boat at some point, which is exciting. In the meantime, I try and find little things in each day. I enjoy hikes more than ever and try to spend my free time wisely. As always, your videography is beautiful and enjoyable to watch. Hope you find it enjoyable enough to continue bringing it to us from time to time.

Hey girl! I have been following you for every it seems like. I took a break a year or two ago from everything, I was just a very dark place in my life. Dealing with loss, betrayal and not fitting in, homesickness and more loss. CS your storytelling skills are amazing. Not many will understand the simplicity of drawers closing with the echo of cutlery the same as van lifers. I miss those simple sounds. The views that nobody else will ever get to see because they decided to fly over them to their destination. Vistas that are seemingly endless even when you think you have embraced them all, Time seemingly speeds up as we get older so do your very best to enjoy the moment, be present.
