On a trip to Spurn Point i was shocked to see how much it has deteriorated in the past few years, soon all that will remain there will be the island at the end, history being washed away year by year.
This is happening all over the east coast and its heartbreaking to see it, it wont be long before its all gone.

I remember as a kid around 1967 exploring those tunnels both WW1 and WW2,and going up that big signal building ..Thinking back there was so much to explore,, That smaller light house I think they called "Magazine tower" we eate our pack lunchs on the top... You never mentioned the fact there was a railway from Kilnsea to Spurn,,I remember seeing the engine shed...First time I went to Kilnsea I think the gas pipeline had just come ashore,, then there was a sea wall from Kilnsea to Spurn (though I could be wrong) about 10yrs later I went back the wall was still there but with a giant hole in it ,, Just look at it now... Any way thanks for showing

What an evocative and nostalgic visit to Spurn Point this is. I never visited on foot but in the 80s flew Lightning jets from nearby Binbrook, and would regularly fly past the lighthouse at the same height as the light and see people staring up at me. I must go back one day before all is lost to the elements. Thanks for reminding us of such a historic site.

Don't worry it will be there long after we are gone I can assure you its actually rebuilding itself up on the wash over as this are was always sanddunes , nature always replaces itself sooner or later , it is a lovely walk tho and the sheep pens area on the river side ,now will be stunning with the wildflower and butterfly meadows

Interesting video, cheers for that.. 👍 I proposed to my Wife on Kilnsea beach at sunrise, New Year's Day 2015.. 😊 The breach that happened in 2013, was only a few weeks after we had walked all around the point with our cameras.. It was beautiful, before that..bit gutting to see it afterwards..

great video of Spurn these days. Went down loads in car and van during the nineties with the family. Presume you are familiar with the CH4 programe from those times "Fragile Earth, Spurn Channel Four 1993" which is well worth a watch on YT in three parts. Thanks again

Thanks for that, I kitesurf over from that at humberston / buck beck beach. I might have a trip over for a closer look. Thanks for taking the time and effort ( including getting wet, bet that down jacket took forever to dry.) Top tip cob three tennis balls into the dryer and it I’ll stop the down clumping together.

.. When i visited, had to park the car hafe way out and the lifeboat station had its own community of several houses, couple of jetties out to several boats. Heard its all been moved across the river now... There used to be short remaining sets of rail lines cutting across the Spit. I understood it was an industrious ship to rail or railway to ship ammunitioning point, WW1.

Really enjoyable video there buddy, love a bit of history. Such a shame such iconic landmarks are under threat. I'd never heard of spurn point before, so will definitely be paying it a visit one day. I'll be heading up and back down along that coast when I get my van and get it usable as I want to do lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle, due to the viking links. Hope you have a great weekend and Best wishes and stay safe and well to you and your family 💙 ❤️ 💙 ❤️ 💙

Spurn was my favourite place on earth, before 2013. Took the kids every summer weekend, from Rotherham. We’d watch the ferry sail from The Port of Hull, and catch her out at Spurn. Ferry racing. Best road ever. I haven’t taken the commercial tour, but I probably will. Just to get to the end, because to try that walk on the sand is hours, and hours. I miss that road. I wish they’d rebuild it. Stop the commercialism. 117.000 I was told to rebuild - or is it 117,0000…

Are the lifeboat crew still living at the lifeboat station at the end ,with the jetty to get to the boat. It's changed a lot since I went to the end in 1969 there was a proper road to the end during a car rally to get our paper work stamped .

The Spurn Point lifeboat station was abandoned in the summer of 2023. An RNLI inspection earlier in 2023 found that the jetty had developed structural problems. Spurn's remote and now clearly dynamic nature led the RNLI to conclude that refurbishing the site was neither good value for money nor safe for the RNLI to continue operating from. The Humber lifeboat has relocated permanently to the backup site in Grimsby and the RNLI intends to build permanent facilities there.
