Even though I was not expecting to stay the winter, I have been figuring out how to do it. Sometimes our life does not go as we planned, but how it turns out is always up to us. I hope you'll join me for a nice morning walk and chat from my tiny home on wheels to talk about how I stay centered and how I plan to move forward. If you haven’t already, please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, SHARE and hit the BELL to continue to receive content like this. Hope to see you next Saturday!

Hey Ms. Dee. Of course when it's cold out something warm to eat/drink is comforting. Anyone that gives you grief for using individual serving packages are not seeing your life/style in storage terms. What works for you is fine with me. It's hard for me to imagine why folks would be mean to you, other than the fact that their are a$$holes in the world. So take their words/opinions with a grain of salt. Stay warm, happy, and you.

You shouldnt have to be green when youre living the van life anyway, you're already leaving such a tiny footprint that you can technically do whatever and still not even touch the level of pollution that sticks n bricks ppl do. I own my house and honestly just the single shower a day is already using a ton of water and really wasteful as well.

My water tip: I heat a full kettle of water, use a portion, then pour the rest into a large thermos bottle. Instant hot water all day without reheating. If it is not all used, then it goes back into the kettle the next day. The kettle is only heated once a day, so it saves on butane, too.

I make a thermos full of coffee at night before bed...hot coffee in bed makes climbing out in the cold so much easier! And, it can be used to warm my tootsies under the covers overnight, even if it isn't as soft and squishy as a hot water bottle. Our ancesters used a hot brick...this is my version.

Hi Dee, I found that running the engine for warming up the van has a dual purpose, in that, if its cold enough to need the warmth, then the starter battery benefits from a bit of a run too.
@maarten_notjustagrip
@maarten_notjustagrip Жыл бұрын
I have also found that a dog blanket or "furniture pad", or even a foam yoga mat OVER the outside of the windscreen does FAR more towards keeping the cold out. Its the biggest thermal bridge on the vehicle, and if you can keep the glass from actuall getting cold... The secondary effect is that IF it snows, you dont have to clear the snow from the winscreen. You simply pull the blanket off.

Dee, I have watched you since you first started your channel and have always appreciated the way you have cared for the environment. Zero waste is not always sustainable in the world we live in. But, I always thought that given the life style you live, you are very balanced and I feel grateful for your example. Also, I love that you show others it is possible to choose what kind of day to have or how to respond to possible issues. Things happen and we can’t control everything, but, we can control how we react. You are such an inspiration and will continue to be. Because, you make it that way. I like to say “make it a great day “ INSTEAD of “have a great day “! Safe travels my friend and enjoy the journey. And even a person’s back yard can be a journey. 😊

Hi Dee, I dont know how anyone could possibly be mean to you. Youve never been negative in any way. Your very kind to everyone no matter their circumstances. I know what it feels like to be picked on and when someone does this its for reasons from their own negative lives that it comes from. Its sad that people feel the need to be mean to others. They will reap what the sow. On a better note, youve put out another great video and are very much appreciated for all your hard work. Just keep doing what your doing however you want to. Cupid Heater by Kovea. Simple, safe, reliable, inexpensive and runs on the same butane canister your stove runs on. Perfect for a smaller space like yours. I have been using one this winter in my Sienna mini van. Cannister lasts about 5 hours with heater on low. You wont need to run it constantly, just turn on and off as required. Use your small fan to circulate the heat down from the ceiling. I buy the butane from Asian markets for about 2 dollars a can. Crack a window for some fresh air. Cheers!

Okay I have to say this. Anyone who is living in a Tiny Tiny Van, does not have to worry about occasional individual packets. Your environmental footprint is so reduced by not using electricity, hot water, flushing a toilet etc. People who are picking on you over that need to look at their own habits and make sure they are pointing their fingers the right way.

The power of affirmation is amazing. I had a heartbreak in college and spent a few weeks moping around. Somebody already mentioned the Kovea Cupid butane heater further in the comments. Also, I have seen a dual purpose heater/cooker (propane) on Amazon that would be good for such a small space. Have you discovered NON GMO CLEAN Buckwheat ? I'm totally gluten free here in US so finding Buckwheat ( not a wheat is awesome. It's a great protein source too. I've also discovered that anything labeled USDA organic is GMO !! SO I stick to NON GMO products. You reminded me of my outfits when I went snow ❄️ skiing years ago & how fast my body would get overheated skiing ! Even here in NW Florida I wear lightweight thermal underwear as my first layer ( over panties !! ) when temps drop below 50° ! cuz my blood is so used to warmer temps !! Thanks for your encouragement to get myself out in the 🌞 earlier of a morning ! I listen to a Morning Inspiration on FB every morning first thing ( it's short ) , then get my hot drink & listen again ! You are showing us all how it's possible to stay comfortable even in 🥶 cold weather !! Eternally grateful for you popping up in my life ❣️ I'm not living NOMAD VAN LIFE yet. Cuz my Toyota Solara Convertible doesn't lend itself to this !! Searching for THE affordable reliable vehicle for ME ! BLESSINGS to you DEAR ONE 🤗 💕 Joining you in Positive Affirmations daily too. I find this intriguing! I grew up in the southern US and moved to southern China n 2018 instead of Beijing, where I'd been before, because I thought I just HAD to be in a warmer climate. I'm back in Beijing now and have realized--ahhh!--that I think I ... prefer colder climates? Maybe? Because I love going for long walks and you don't get sweaty! And it's invigorating! But maybe I'm just nuts, haha. On a different note, I recently started using affirmations and agree that they are helpful. Yay!

Hi again, 60 degrees plus ski bibs, so like a comfy 70's ? The lowest temperature I've car camped in was 9 degrees in the CA Sierra Mt's and I had a good down sleeping bag. To expect someone living in their vehicle to also be recycling is sort of ridiculous. One of the best things I enjoy while ruffing it in a vehicle is the sun's warmth 'solar heat', it just feels right. Take care, stay warm and travel on !!

As the late Bill Hicks once said - "what is it with those people - are they lizards - always want it hot and sunny" - warmth is okay but I think you appreciate it far more if your climate is colder. I love living in the place where I am on the edge of the fells and the Pennines with cold fresh winters and snow and frost and I love walking on the moors, frost crunchy under my feet, my breath in a mist before me. plastics are okay if you use them constantly and not just buy and throw so don't worry Dee. I'm actually thinking of moving back to Scotland - to the Hebrides where my ancestors are from. It's colder there and if it isn't cold enough, maybe Canada ..lol...Wisconsin?

You're 99th percentile in most ways, definitely including being aware and diligent about caring for the planet and people. That anyone could complain about your very mild use of consumer products, is incomprehensible to me. Ignore them. In most cases, probably the great majority, the complainers would lose in an impact study of their total lifestyle versus yours. Many probably have pets that generate more waste than you do. Not to mention kids, houses, vehicles, vacation habits, restaurant habits, corporate jobs with environmentally destructive employers, and 1000 other things. You could multiply your impact by 10x, and still your presence would be a net positive for humanity and the planet. That is not true of most people.

Try a heated under- vest... it makes a difference worn next to a base layer for me in/resting in colder temperatures on a regular basis, aka most of the day. ActionHeat from canada makes 12v/7v system that can run off your vehicle when you're in it and off a 7v battery when you're out. They have us website. Originally really for old weather motorcyclists, its a great tool for the cold weather living toolbox especially those whose inside temperature or temp they live in throughout the day is below or well below 60F. It's great for when you're sitting or low activity as your body ramps down its heat production.

Dear Lady Bog Out, the naysayers are just envious of you and most likely don't take the time to recycle themselves, as I have found to be very time consuming living with someone who loves to cook more than walk. And admittingly, this is the first of your videos to bump my envy bone, so please please don't take it personally. People handle stress differently and they wouldn't be watching your videos if there wasn't something attracting them. Hi Dee, thank you for all your videos and standing behind the 'movement'. Movement being ...independence and saving money normally wasted on bad rentals. May I add ...plz unless you have already...a hot water bottle....put this bottle in your shirt in the morning b4 u get out of bed. In your bed put an extra set of pjs that were warmed in the bed ....put these on...so u can climb back in bed while car in warming up. When car is warm its then easier to 'mentally function.

I wonder what kind of footprint those people that are calling you out for paper, plastics, and the such are leaving. I recycle as much as I can, but let's get real. We can't be completely free from waste. Living in a sticks and brick home means having so much around you that causes pollution, etc. Your footprint on the world is much smaller than average. Hi Dee, I have a diesel heater, they work well, however they are very noisy. Tried 3 of them. I still use them as i am in Canada AB and with temperatures of 5deg F you need something. If you want to know more ill be glad to let you know everything i learnt on the heaters. I build all my own equipment thus I can help with install info etc. I believe you have found the "Key". The key is to remain resilient and resourceful. We can use any unforseen turn of events to our advantage, and turn a seemingly negative situation into a positive one. Life doesn't always go as planned, but with the right attitude and a bit of creativity, it can be an exciting journey that leads to success.

Nice thing about not "gutting" a van is the plastic panels in most passenger vans provide a good bit of dead space between metal exterior wall and inside. I try to avoid single use plastics (packaging). Especially hard plastic. But sometimes it's practically impossible. Too bad. We used to do just fine with paper, cardboard and cellophane packaging (or no packaging) for everything.
