It was truly a fine day when I bought my 1st copy of "Veedon Fleece". Already a hardcore fan of his, I wanted more. I put it on and this came wafting off the turntable and made everything okay that day; and many days since. It's a finite club that can set a groove and mood like Van and the brilliant musicians he records and plays live with who can get their head around what he's trying to lay down and make it come out true.

I remember reading an old Rolling Stone interview from the early 70's, in which it was clear that his genius was such that he did not understand the impact of his music on his fans. A few years later, I was talking with one of my friends who'd met him when she was working in a recording studio in Sausalito,Ca. She basically said the same thing, as far as his (lack of) social skills were concerned. Make no mistake, she loves his music as much as I do. Her point was the same as in the article, in that like many true geniuses, he was socially distant and removed from the impact of his art on the public; none of which diminishes the incredible impact of his art.
