I was a teenager when I first heard this song. I was hanging out with friends in a wooded park one summer night with fire flies flickering in and out of the bushes. Someone had a boombox (haha)and we were listening to tunes. We were enjoying a joint, very mellow night, we all got up and began to dance when this song came on the radio. Such a Magical Evening and a lovely memory all these years later.

Listen to the nuances in this track. Jazz, soul, hints of rock....damn this song is incredible!! The upright bass is just nasty!! The way the song is mixed is genius.

Also a lover of the double-bass and I've ended up with a pssion for VGM done as jazz by brilliant Aussie band The Consouls, partly because their bass player favours the acoustic bass instead of electric eg. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2W4i3SMes6rp5Y

Keep listening to the oldies and you'll soon start picking up bits of songs and realizing that's where the sample came from. I was listing to some David Axlerod (David McCollum, also acted as Ducky on NCIS) for the first time one day, his song the edge came on and a few seconds in it clicked where id heard it many times. Snoop dog used it as a sample in the next episode iirc.

I'm lucky that I grew up in a family that loves music, and it was always playing in our house. We had a TV that was in a small corner room, but in the living room we had one of those Magnavox console stereos, my mom's prized possession. That was most of our entertainment. Dad had stacks of classical records made in Germany that had quality sound. Mom loved popular music, big band, and old bluegrass "murder ballads" that she learned from her mother who was born in 1900 but died penniless in 1932. She never owned a record player, but she taught her children to sing in harmony. That was the only gift she could give them and it was a wonderful gift. Mom would put on a stack of records that was diverse. There were 1940 torch singers like Sarah Vaughn, Big Band like Benny Goodman, 60s pop from Tom Jones, and soul & R&B from James Brown and Aretha. If the stereo wasn't playing, then Mom was singing and she sang well. I've been able to find some of the songs she used to sing on KZbin that she learned from her mom as a child back in the 1920s. This song was my favorite, recorded in 1928. It's a funny song, but today would be considered inappropriate and not PC. I like to sing it to children and act out the lyrics to get them giggling (I pantomime pulling out my teeth, popping out an eyeball, and removing my hair), but some of their anal parents think it's terrible and promotes violence. 🙄😏 kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2SpfYmdoNFsY9U BTW, I'm old but I enjoy hip-hop too. I was a punk rocker back in the 70s and 80s, but also scoured used record stores to find my prized Bo Diddley, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Danny Kaye recordings. I feel sorry for those who don't love music of many different eras and genres.

When Van Morrison released "Moondance", I was in my Junior year in High School and lovesick over someone that was unreachable. I had fallen in Love with a girl in the Senior Class of 70. In those days "older" girls did not date lower classmen. "Moondance" was a song that "spoke to me " as I spent many lovesick nights watching her from afar. Ten years passed. One evening, she walked into my workplace. She was in town and unbelievably, looking for me. It all got worked-out in God's Plan for us. There have been lean years and years of plenty always together and always in Love. We have been married for 43 years, time has passed and innumerable Moon dances have been danced. However, each time I look at her I am transported back to 1970 when I thought I would never see her again. Thank God for keeping us together, sharing a Love for the Ages.

Easily one of the greatest songs ever written in history (that we know of so far). They just don't write em like this any more, nor do they ever give so much feel the way this music hits. Lots of good songs and artists today, none like this. Every lyric and every note is magical. A time when the musicians playing these songs had feel and passion for the music and nothing else mattered.
@chrissimon83682 жыл бұрын
I've heard some good reasons why the music was so good back then. Two of them are the amount of exposure to live music and the ability to perform live music to audiences. There used to be a bar or tavern on every lake in Michigan that would have live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Michigan has the nickname of the state with a thousand lakes. During the Vietnam war, Michigan's drinking age started at eighteen.

I found that in the 70s and 80s, a lot of the really creative stuff came out of the UK. Now we have the ubiquitous mumble and/or nonsensical lyrics plus machine beat mostly driven by US pop trends. Stopped listening to pop a couple of decades ago and have been diving deeper into jazz instead. Much more musically satisfying.

I was sixteen and staying at my elder brothers house. One afternoon I was bored and found the stash. I rolled myself one, then started looking through their cd collection, it was1996. I came across this by chance, and wow it blew me away. The summer after van Morrison came and played in a festival in our town. I had just fallen in love for the first time and me and this beautiful girl made out next to the river as van played away in the big tent...pure magic xxxxx

Lyrics: Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance With the stars up above in your eyes A fantabulous night to make romance 'Neath the cover of October skies And all the leaves on the trees are falling To the sound of the breezes that blow You know I'm tryin' to please to the calling Of your heartstrings that play soft and low You know the night's magic seems to whisper and hush You know the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love? Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love? Well, I wanna make love to you tonight I can't wait 'til the mornin' has come You know, I know now the time is just right And straight into my arms you will run And when you come, my heart will be waiting To make sure that you're never alone There and then all my dreams will come true, dear There and then I will make you my own And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside And I know how much you want me, that you can't hide Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love? Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love? Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance With the stars up above in your eyes A fantabulous night to make romance 'Neath the cover of October skies And all the leaves on the trees are falling To the sound of the breezes that blow You know I'm trying to please to the calling Of your heartstrings that play soft and low You know the night's magic seems to whisper and hush You know the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love? Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love? One more moondance with you In the moonlight On a magic night La, la, la, la, la, in the moonlight On a magic night Can't I just have one more, more dance with you, my love?

@@lynnbuczek8151 my dad had cancer and he was in the hospital, my gramma and I went to see him. On the way in we saw his dr and he said he didn’t recommend we go in as he said my dad was “hallucinating” from the powerful drugs he was on. We went in anyway. He appeared to be asleep so we sat down. Then dad started mumbling & got quiet then mumbled again …then he said “Yes Patsy yes”. He opened his eyes and looked at us and said my mom asked him if he wanted to be her Valentine. Gramma looked at me with fear as it was February. That was in 1969. My sr yr of high school. Dad got out of the hospital a couple days later. Then in 1972 my dad was back in the hospital on February 13th. On Valentines Day he went into a coma and passed away on the 19th. Now Lynn, for the back story to that, my mom had died in 1965 on Valentines Day. I had been given a gift on my painful journey of life. I could tell you so many things I’ve experienced that are AmaZing. Love never dies and we live life again and again. We were promised forever and yet we are led to believe we only live once. What purpose would there be in that? We have the blueprint to get here once … Peace to you sweetie. Your sister is near and forever loving you ✨♥️✨
