This was my born again song, I've almost died from heart failure and asked God if he would please show Himself. The moment I asked I listened to this song, the first part of the song was like leaving my old life behind, then the up tempo brought me into my new life! It was so amazingly beautiful, as if I waved my old life away and got welcomed into my new life.

Van's most poetically powerful song, if such can be spoken about his nearly 60 yrs of lyrics and poetry; I once listened to this song ten times in a row through my headset one long, lonely night of many spent years ago during dark and struggling times, and the light infusing my soul from his words, the melody, his poetry and voice and phrasings and his band and Pee Wee Ellis' incredible sax illuminated me with hope and healing and the freshness of the energy fusing this performance together and sending it out to America on a wavelength. . . needed this tonight too. Thanks for the post, and to Robin Whitley who brought me back here as well to be reminded of the oneness, the oneness; still trying to understand it though

I question anyone who is not moved by this song from 3.10; Ellis almost dents the inside of the sax with some much passion and power going through it...he strangles the instrument in the most poetic. Van. Sheer Oneness. Sheer Genius.
@enricocavallini772810 жыл бұрын
It isn't Pee Wee Ellis on alto sax at 3:10, but V.M. himself. He's technically poor but - I agree - full of passion. Ellis here is performing on flute.

@alanmurr65629 жыл бұрын
+Drum Bragg , I played the flute but gave it up 30 years ago to focus on the guitar. Other musicians who played the flute and other melodic instruments told me that that was the case. Just someone's opinion is all.
@DrumBragg9 жыл бұрын
Cheers Alan - I think it's as easy/difficult as any other instrument...with the flute it's about tone (as well as technique) and like all instruments - it's how you play them that counts. Compared with the guitar or drums it's certainly harder to begin with - as you have to create a sound (like blowing across a bottle top). With the guitar or drum kit - getting a sound is the easy part...All instruments take years of dedication as you know.

She was telling me when her A levels were starting and that she was going to meet her boyfriend in Thailand in August. He’s in Australia but then they might both go to London which I was encouraging of cos getting out of this shit place has to be a positive. And London is a place for the young and or the rich. I asked her what she was doing for English A level. She named A Winter’s Tale and one of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales can’t remember which one. They do no poetry. Just have to critique some unseen poem in the exam. No women. No Irish writers. There’s certainly a dumbing down on the ole curriculum since I did English A level.
