Van Staal VR50 Product Review

About a month ago I picked up this reel after eyeballing for a while. I'm really impressed with it and wanted to throw together a quick video on my thoughts and showcasing it a bit.

Hey neighbor I'm just east of you from Highlands county and have had mine for a little over a month and use mine for shore fishing throwin a zoom junebug tubeworm for bass ..... to snook down in Charlotte harbor using a 5in swim bait, to fishing for reds just south of skyway over in the Palmetto area with live shrimp. The only thing I have to do is switch out to 1 of 3 different spools I have for it ...... definitely a lightweight multipurpose reel especially on a 7'3" ugly stik carbon.

@@FixinToFail yes. I've found it doesn't twist mono line as bad as the VS... but it's a minute complaint, especially if you use braid.

How's this working for you? Im mainly using a 4000 stradic and thinking or making this switch. Just for the purpose of waterproof. I mainly surf fish now.

20lb braid but usually a 40lb leader. I use the cheap stuff off Amazon called Hercules Braid cause get it in bulk

Hey man nice vid: just got one about 2 months ago I noticed the line started to not wind with tension it started rolling unevenly any idea what it was? I had to respool

Could be many things man, I noticed my braid getting twisted when throwing banana jigs a lot and was shocked when I didn’t get wind knots. Could be your rod and no the reel though, typical action in the guides and jigging or popping lures cause. Did you use mono backing? That helps stabilize the braid, I use 10’ or so of 30lb mono before starting the braid

I want to have a 6000 size and a 4000 . And sell all 10 penns. Go the minimalist route. But like you I love looking at my wall of rods.
