Great van build! Love back corner bedside cubbies! Were they homemade? One safety concern is that your propane tank is not in a separate, down-vented gas locker under the bed. Maybe that is on the to-do list!

For a van, it looks huge, tidy, and comfortable on the inside. Both of you know what you need; all items / nooks are functional. Love how you made your garage spacious (and that you have a 'secret doorway' from the inside and the space for laundry basket). PS. I wonder why I don't see a lot of van built with your kind of shower setup (shower rods, extendable clothesline, pocket storage). It's very convenient. ✨

@LKseims
@LKseims 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I just double checked the Amazon link and you're totally right! I'm not seeing the backup battery info. We purchased our fridge through Summit Racing Equipment, but they told us it was the same product that was listed on Amazon. On the display (as shown on the Amazon listing as well) it shows a battery icon. If the fridge stops receiving outside power it will resort to using the backup battery. The icon will show you how charged the backup battery is and you'll be able to see when it starts getting drained. It says it should offer up to 16 hours of backup battery time but I'm sure that varies depending on how hot it is where you are at.

For this build, you moved the shower from inside to outside. Obviously this is a great space saver and have tentative plans in my build to add an external shower outside the back as you have. However, how often did you use the shower in your previous van build and how often are you using this one? For your heater, did your Ram Promaster have a gas inlet from the engine or did you have to get one installed? What is the size of your gray tank? What type of gas mileage do you get with your vehicle?
@loganseims7921
@loganseims7921 2 жыл бұрын
We actually didn't use the inside shower very much at all, and the outside shower we've used, but more for a rinse. Its come in handy though! I value the space saved over having a shower inside.
@loganseims7921
@loganseims7921 2 жыл бұрын
Now that it's cold we will go to the gym for showers. The grey tank is a 5 gallon. Ram Promasters come with an extra pickup line on the gasoline tank so you merely have to connect to it for the heater. And the the van averages 18mpg

Actually with both the gray & fresh water tank being inside, we aren't worried about it "freezing up" since we can regulate the van's temp. We don't plan to winter in Alaska this year but we built out the van so we could take it into the mountains for skiing without worry of it freezing anywhere.

Excellent tour of a very nice, practical van! 😁👍 To increase storage space in my small wardrobe I use s-shaped hangers that allow me to hang 4/5 pairs of pants on their own space on one hanger (if that made sense? 🤔) and cascading hanger extensions for tops -though i'm not sure they'd work in your short hanging space tbh. I can also recommend vacuum storage bags that come with a teeny usb vacuum pump for storing out of season clothes, bulky coats, blankets or even linens (from JML/VMSTR Travel etc) Do you use a slatted duck-board to stand on whilst showering? Anyhoo, happy travels! 😊👋🇬🇧

You guys are awesome! Great build! I too live in a van but it's old school. A 1997 Dodge Ram Regular Cargo Van. It's not like your rig. What l'd like to know is: Did you get a kit or plans or Sketchup to deck out your Van? How much was your van and total cost to build out your home? I love the ideas you present but it's a build that will take some time for me to put together. My van walls have polystyrene boards glued in place, with a unhooked Atwoods RV furnace. I want to place the propane tank elsewhere preferably outside. It also has a rubber floor and ikea black out curtains and shower rod taped at the ends with gorilla tape. I tried to find if people provide a high top for my van but unfortunately it would better suit me to buy a used high top van already made. I plan to live in my van year round here on the west coast of BC, Canada for school, then work for a year and a half till l relocate to the Prairies either in Calgary, Alberta or Saskatoon or Regina, Saskatchewan for work in Aviation Security as that was my career some years ago. What inspired me was a guy named Cruz Valdez or Vancity Vanlife but he makes close to a thousand dollars per day and is worth $850,000 CAD on ads and endorsements from companies advertising on his KZbin Channel as was found out on the internet. I'm no where like this guy as l earn a thousand dollars per month on Disability. I currently live in White Rock. As it stands l have to be frugal and aquire a proper bed, kitchen, cook stove thru free ads on Craigslist and buy a Porta potty when money comes my way. Any help would greatly be helpful.

Your van is great, I am not laughing at it. I had the sound turned down because I was being called by my Husband. When I turned to watch again it was at the point where the woman was showing off the mirror. She looked like she was doing the safety speech airlines do before takeoff. The hand motions were perfect.

Live your guys' van, so effective and beautiful. The only thing you might be underestimating, is just how much dry spices can absorb from their environment. You have containers with screwcaps, which aren't tight enough to prevent the occasional porta potty whiff, to make it in. It's just not worth the space saving.

Nice job! The laundry shoot is a great idea! Not sure if I would replicated it the same way but maybe? The idea that the laundry flows to an out of the way area in the garage is awesome! I was intrigued by the wheel well covers which you didn’t mention? I never heard of a Rhino liner, and I don’t see a link for it ? Is this a solid material that you attached to the back of the wood panel or a material that gets rolled on like paint? So many good ideas! I love the vegetable/fruit hammock, and what seems like the biggest issue for most people is a fixed shower vs some kind of pop up or erectable shower stored in a cabinet. I was kind of set on a fixed shower, but now that I have seen your solution and the fact that I most likely would never do any winter time travel, I think that replicating your solution would be the best, and would allow for a shorter wheel base. Maybe, adding a cedar slat floor mat that could be rolled out would keep your feet off the ground? Now, given that I’m 61, I just have to get the courage to try building out a van!

Nifty!! Love that Garage!! That Portopotty what do you do when one of you has to poop in such a small space? I would totally be forcing my partner outside or in the front in that time.. eek raining would suck though.. But imagine sleeping under the rain fall.. Another thing I was curious about... With Sleeping inside a van.. does it ever get noisy? Like traffic outside or people walking near your car? That is the only thing I'm afraid of with converting my minivan.. I'd prefer for some instalation for that reason alone.. it would be too scary hearing people walk around outside by my house while I'm sleeping and stuff..

Hahah we only use the toilet for emergencies, most often we use public restrooms 😂 As for noise-proofing, we have closed cell insulation spray foam and it blocks out most noise! Also, we try to park off the road a ways to avoid traffic sounds + passing people. I'd love to see your minivan build! Are you planning on doing a tour video?

I like the idea of a camper van, and maybe if you're alone living and traveling in a van is okay, but I can't get past not having a shower inside and toilet inside. Like a wet bath with the toilet on something to slide out or literally anything with a hint of privacy if I am sharing a van. I just cant' fathom going to the bathroom where I cook with my partner watching from where we sleep LOL

Hi, thank you! We did build the cabinets from scratch, with 3/4" plywood. My dad is fantastic at cabinetry so he showed us the ropes. And as for the walls it is just 1/4" plywood covered by joint compound/texturing (like used in houses). For bridging the gaps and corners we actually used bondo instead of the joint compound and it has held up great! Let us know if that answered your questions or if you have any others:)

Do you have anything under the mattress to add airflow to prevent moisture and mold from forming? What /where exactly is the antifreeze going into? Since you have to winterize the van with antifreeze does that mean you can’t use the van during the coldest months?
@LKseims
@LKseims 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions! The antifreeze is just installed in case we sell the van and somebody wants to store it over the winter. If we (or anyone) live in it over the winter and keep the inside of the van normal live-able temps then the antifreeze is totally not needed. As for the mattress, we just check under it periodically (at the beginning of the month) to make sure there is no moisture buildup:) Let us know if you have any other questions!
