Vanagon cold start

Overnight it was just below zero. So, I wanted to show the beauty of Fuel injection. There are a lot of people who don't understand fuel injection engines, can't fix them, and then they give fuel injection a bad name. If this was a carbureted engine this would have likely not started at all. Note the very slow cranking.

I absolutely guarantee my Pierburg-carbed 1.9 T3 would have started as quickly in that temperature.

Smart Carbs adjust for temp, altitude, and boost reference automatically and out atomizes fuel all but the most sophisticated race injection systems. So, take that injection Boy

I was just wondering last night how does a carb adjust for significant temperature differences 🤔

It can't ... The best you can get is a mechanical bi-metallic choke spring that closes the choke , and hopes for the best. Any electronic temp. sensor (that requires some sort of control) can only close the same mechanical choke.. Anything more than that, that was built into carbs, were really f'd up companies trying to cut corners, such as GM throttle body EFI. Bosch made the port fuel inject years before GM made that junk. GM's throttle body EFI is NOT a Carb. But many think it still was. It was expensive junk.
