Nice one VB (and nicely edited onvars!). A couple of other ways to get amenities through Pantheon River Goddess (+1 for Holy sites on Rivers) and Religion belief Zen Meditation (+1 in cities with 2 specialty districts) and Stupa building (+1). City States Suzerain Buenos Aires (+1 per type of bonus resource), Muscat (+1 for each commercial hub), Cahokia (+1 for each Cahokia Mound improvement, 2 max over time). National Parks too!

Hi Bradley, I'm one of the admins on civwiki who is in charge of the behind the scene and game mechanics. At 5:26, when it is said "all other penalties stay the same," it means it doesn't change from before GS to GS, it doesn't mean "Unrest" is the same as "Unhappy," since it would be redundant to have to thresholds with the same effects. Since it causes confusion, I made changes to the wiki page. Thanks for the great video :)

I hate it. This is the worst Civ in the series because the developers have lost track of what made Civ great. The "adjacency" stuff, means you now have to plan your expansion in the same way that games like Sim City require, but Civ was never about that... Civ was about discovery, hence the fog of war mechanic. There's just way too much work for not enough reward and let's face it, there's no fun involved with amenities.

Important point is that Entertainment Complexes and Water Parks stack - so to maximize your amenities after natural history you should really try to hit each city with both. You can also build water parks on lakes which is quite helpfull. Using the strip of ocean and a lake in the example above you can easily get +1 amenity to all of your cities with aquariam and additional +3 later in the game. This is enough to cover extra 8 people! However Water Parks and Entertainment Complexes cannot be build in the same city so even more planning is required to optimize this.

Well done VB ... ONVARS you are epic m8 ... making VB looking soooo good! Worth every penny my friend! I love how you tackled this complicated tutorial to make a bit easier to keep in focus. Crazy how most of us know all this information at game start yet is is sooo easy to end up in trouble due to losing focus, shifting focus or simply not paying attention. Those kind of numbers can make your first 3-5 great cities worse off than some of your late settle cities which is absolutely insane and can cause you to loose your game or take many more turns to accomplish your Victory Choice! Keep it up VB/Onvars loving it!!!

The biggest time I worry about amenities is when the era changes (mostly in dramatic ages mode), cities low on amenities are MUCH more likely to rebel. In fact if you have enough governors, put one in every city and you're probably gonna be good!

Muscat also grants amenities for commercial hubs, which can be helpful in large/economy focused empires. They're very good for Mali!

New civ player here. Is there a rule of thumb about population control? Aka do you ever purposely stop working food tiles/chop food. So that your population doesn't grow anymore. I could see increasing pop without emenities negatively impacting you even if your +1 citizen is working a good tile.

One tutorial I would like to see would be how to pace out your settlers. Yes I know you should have 3ish cities by turn 50 and 7-8 by turn 100, but how and when should they be prioritized over units or campuses?

Many of the great merchants offer luxury resources (amenities) not available to mine etc during actual gameplay... denim, toys, perfume. I like temple of Artemis for amenities as well

If i got 5 cities and 1 Luxury Ressource then City 1 - 4 would get 1 Amenitie and City 5 would get none. If i build an Entertainment District in like City 3 would the first Amenitie (from the Luxury Ressource) get transferred to City 5? So that all of the 5 cities then have an equal amount of Amenities?

Hey there! I was wondering... Those Maya colors aren't the original ones. Did you change them through the "Colors.xml" file, or is there any other way? When selling luxury resources, shop around for the best price. Maybe the Germans will give you five gold, but the Japanese will pay 13 a bonus 6 gold per turn may not seem like a lot oh, but it could be the difference between an extra Builder or settlor

The same AI player will sometimes offer you different prices for different duplicate copies you own (not counting the Amenities they already own) It is strange, since different Amenities should all have the same value unless you already own a copy

I think they may value those less since they’re more inclined to vote those amenities to have no value on like world congresses. It’s definitely more complex than just extra amenities will be bought at x price

Good vid, the main thing I took away from this was the details about luxury resources, how many cities they spread too, you only send them for 30 turns? (then receive them back to re-sell ?) and the max amount on each continent
