The SkyTrain is a dream to ride. When it first entered service, it was the world’s first light rail system to be fully automated. Most people weren’t used to the concept of automation and thought the train was controlled by magic

Well, even if it's true what you say, there is however some things that have to be kept in mind, and it is the Montreal subway network. Due to mainly safety issues, there is a ''driver'' in the trains(it is not safety reason, it is union issues that forces the Montreal subway to have an operator), but it is fully automated since 1966, meaning it could be operated without the operator, it's simply not for the reason I just point at. In the end you are right about who's the first, but only due to another union scam in the national state of quebec.

You shouldn't use the term LRT for systems like Vancouver. It kinda undersells it. Light metro might work as a term. But because it's grade separated its entire route, I'd just call it metro.

I guess people haven't changed their minds. The Montreal REM, which is very similar to the SkyTrain, just opened and it's being referred to as light rail. 😆 I'm gonna exploit that though. It’s kinda weird to begin the history of Vancouver’s transit system at the year 1977. The year Vancouver’s transit system began is more like1890 .. with *The B,C. Electric Railway* ... which includes the entire electrified bus system which runs on all the old streetcars routes and the old Interurban R.O.W.’s which a significant part of the 1980’s EXPO line runs along. Otherwise, a well narrated video synopsis of the late 20th C to early 21 C portion of the very long history of the BC Transit* system. _____________ * (Which only fairly became administered under rebranded semi-privatized entity known today as *TransLink* - which handles all metropolitan Vancouver’s highways & Bridges & tunnel infrastructure) .

"Millenial line" ok boomer? No but in all seriousness, transit maps are almost never geographically correct. Still no budget, BC is not a rich province since we aren't big economy provinces like Ontario or Quebec. Surrey-Langley Skytrain 50/50 won't happen. Even we've got the budget, we might have to wait for another 10 - 15 years. Don't forget it took almost 20 years to plan and build Evergreen Line and that's only 11km. Surrey central-Langley is almost 18km.
