Not only Kalaripayattu is ancient but earlier there were Mallayuddham (Hindu Combat Wrestling / Grappling) , Mushtiyudhham (Hindu Combat Boxing using Clenched fist , with Knee, elbow, Shoulder and Headbutt strike which was lethal and matches banned by Britishers) , Niyuddha ,Shastra Vidya and many more state wise variation too . Kalaripayattu has both aspect of Shastra Vidya and Niyuddha with some variation .

Sir these are also a part of kalaripayattu because kalaripayattu is not a specific fight technique but this is a combination of all ancient martial arts therefore this is called *MOTHER OF All MARTIAL ARTS* .new Martial arts are also a indirect part of Kalaripayattu because all the Martial of world is driven either directly or indirectly from Kalaripayattu . Like Kung Fu it is a direct part of kalaripayattu but bruce lee discovered fight technique are indirect part of Kalaripayattu because these technique are driven from Kung Fu and Kung Fu is driven from Kalaripayattu. *Please learn about Kalaripayattu if you can not believe*

I just said that Bharata is mother of all martial arts , not just Kalaripayattu is Ancient Artform but there are many which ancient some are lost , some are still surviving . Kalaripayattu too is part of it only , Indian martial arts is mother of all directly and indirectly all is derived from this only. .
