This was the first and only ever 1:24 set I got as a kid back in the 80's. It took me ages to build and it took my dog 5 minutes to destroy. I was gutted. Now it's on my wishlist and as an adult, I i might be able to afford it!

G'day Daniel. Not a story with a happy ending! If you can pick one up on a sale, then got for it, but I don't think it's worth the full price at this point, as the tooling is getting very worn. Airfix just retooled and released a new 1:24 Spitfire, so I am hoping that sells well for them and they might revisit some other subjects in the range. Time will tell I suppose. Although it's got some inaccuracies, Trumpeter also make a 1:24 series of Hurricanes you might want to look at too. There is some reviews online. Still if you aren't wedded to 1:24, check out the Airfix 1:48 Hurricane released in 2015. That kit is superb and more detailed than the bigger kit too. www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-a05127-hawker-hurricane-mki--932499. Dan

great review I remember buying the spitfire when I was a teenager it had a small motor for the prop those were the days
@DansModelBench
@DansModelBench 7 жыл бұрын
Ha! I actually have that motor, well the new Airfix one, but I've left it out incase I want to motorise one of my other 1:24 Airfix kits. Really need to finish this kit too. Currently building and videoing the new 1:48 Airfix Hurricane. Dan

Its an impressive kit so far. Just finished the interior on it. Lots of very nice detail and engineering for a 1:48 kit.

I have an original, semi-built 1973 Airfix 1/24th scale Hurricane M.I. I started it back then, got busy with other thins, and never completed it. I just did the cockpit, panel (badly), engine (pretty well) and such. As you know, this is a great model for super-detailing. Because of its size, you can go as far as you want with every little thing, even the interior structure with removeable panels. It's a great kit for a scale aircraft nerd, like me. I always imagined it finished, on a shelf, looking every bit the magnificent thing it is, that is, if I built it properly, that is. How does the 1973 Airfix 1/24th scale Hurri kit compare to the recent Trumpeter 1/24th scale Hurri? Can I mix and match each to the other to get a super model or is either sufficient on its own?

G’day Glicksman, First of all I would say your 1973 Hurricane would be a much nicer kit to put together then the one you see in this video. The molds for the kit I had are really tired and Airfix should have really retired this kit by now. I’m guessing because they haven’t done a new one in this scale, they just keep pushing more of them out. Hopefully like the recently announced 1:24 Spitfire, Airfix will go back and redo this subject. I’ve got one of the Trumpeter 1:24 Hurricane Mark II’s in my stash and its typical Trumpeter. That is to say its got some details wrong as Trumpeter and their sister company Hobby Boss are pretty poor when it comes to putting in the research. The plane has the wrong engine and some panel lines are wrong too for the guns its carrying in this form. It’s not the end of the world, but annoying. I haven’t got the Mark 1 Hurricane from Trumpeter, but you can download the instructions for the kit from here: www.scalemates.com/kits/trumpeter-02414-hurricane-mk1--104911 As you can see it’s different enough that swapping parts could be very challenging. If you aren’t happy with how you finished parts of your old kit, I would buy one of the new reissued 1:24 Airfix Hurricanes and use only the parts you need from that to redo your kit. The decals are also a bonus as the new ones are one thing that is better then your 73 kit and those original decals probably won’t be any good when you put them in water anyway. If you want a great experience with an Airfix Hurricane and you don’t mind the change in scale, I can certainly recommend the Airfix 1:48 scale kit. It's more detailed than the 1:24 kit and while a bit fiddly thanks to the accurate cockpit they put in it, it is a really nice kit. Get any of the issues from 2015 on. You can find out more about those here: www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-a05127-hawker-hurricane-mki--932499 Regards, Dan

@@DansModelBench G' day, Dan. Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, the original parts in my 1973 Hurri kit are very sharply stamped and I'm sure the decals are dried out pretty badly by now. Perhaps an aftermarket set is available. If I go ahead with it, I'll definitely get a new version of the kit to replace some of the parts I've rooted. I'd consider building the 1:48th Hurri, but it would be rather small. How is it that such a very much smaller kit is less detailed? Thank you again. Cheers, mate.

I like how hurricanes look, I know they played important role in battle of britain shooting down alot of German planes, check out the 1969 battle of britain movie

Nice review sounds like a kit for me. I just like to build when I can and really like the bigger kits. Biggest one I've built is a 1/32nd F4U corsair.

Its an older kit now, so can get a bit frustrating. Presently mine is sitting as a shelf queen until I move house this Christmas. I think once I'm settled in the new place, I will look to finish it. To be honest the new tooled 1:48 Hurricane from Airfix is a much better kit and better detailed in some places too. Where this kit wins, is the scale does give the plane some real presence.

Very good review of the Hurricane. I mistakenly sold my reissue 1/24 Mustang, but kept hold of the other three beasts when they were reissued in Grey plastic a few years back, I still have the original issue 1/24 Spitfire & ME109 in my collection in the loft at the moment so may have a go at them at some time. Hopefully Airfix will reissue the 1/24 scale Mosquito when they get round to it?

Hi Neil, Very sorry for not replying sooner! I had no idea Airfix put out a Mosquito in 1:24 and its a relatively new tool too. Would make an interesting build, but you certainly would need some room for it. At present I've got a 1:24 Hurricane from Trumpeter on its way as I saw one on ebay and couldn't resist. :)

@DansModelBench

$60 is a good buy! I think you'll have a bit more success then me with it too, as the moulds are now quite old. A '73 kit should go together a lot nicer. :)

+UKscalemodeller Its not just the size, but as I am discovering the joy of how kits sometimes use to fit together back in the day. I've completed the engine and shot the next videoe of the build today, so should be up soon. Thanks for being my very first subscriber to the channel by the way! :) Dan

How much would you say a second hand one would be
@DansModelBench
@DansModelBench 5 жыл бұрын
That would depend on a few factors Edward. The early releases would probably have decals that have gone bad, but a much nicer finish on the plastic thanks to the molds being newer. On the other hand the newer ones have nice decals and shoddy finish on the plastic. Honestly I wouldn't pay much for one as I think its a life expired kit. New ones sell in Australia for around $120, so I would not pay more then $40 second hand. To be honest I would check out the Trumpeter 1:24 Hurricanes. Not perfect, but newer and better overall. Dan

When I said second hand just opened when I said second some pieces are popes out but never built it I think it is a newer model because I got it for my birthday a couple of years a go but never had time to build it
