She was only 19yo in 2000 and Vanessa Amorosi is still our Aussie female rock legend

Vanessa Amorosi is, arguably, the finest female pop vocalist in the world. Nobody can equal her runs. Range is spastic. Tonal control perfect. Trills, belts and embellishments uniquely sensational. BTW she sings great jazz too with a moodiness just right.

Incredible performance on an incredible night. I had the pleasure of sitting in the front row of the upper southern stand as a Pool Photographer to capture the Opening Ceremony. I remember that I couldn't shoot while the screen sheet was passing over my head but I could see some sort of projection. The sound of Vanessa's voice was spine tingling. One of the most incredible experiences in my life. Bravo Vanessa Amorosi.

Juan Antonio Samaranch declared that this Olympics was the 'best ever'.... not just the sport, not just the support from all australians, not just the absolute effort put in by the volunteers but also the opening and closing ceremonies. And I don't think there has been a response since...... Something really special happened that year in 2000.... that won't be reached again for a while.....

G'day mate! Thanks for reacting to Vanessa again. So happy that you got to hear her in a different light and that you enjoyed her vocals. We can always tell when you do, it shows on your face. Do you play poker? lol ... I was lucky enough to be there in 2000 (the best Olympics ever!) and this performance gave me chills at the time and has stayed with me ever since. To think, she belted that out in front of 102k people in the audience and, as you said, over 1bn worldwide at the tender age of 19. I felt very inspired and I have to say, very proud. Thanks again Charlie, see you again soon!

She is globally recognised for her vocal range that extends to Soprano C#6 and at age 19 she blew the music appreciating minds of over 1billion people listening to her sing ‘Heroes Live Forever’ during the opening ceremony and ‘Absolutely Everybody’ at the closing ceremony😮 of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Summer Games. Do yourself a favour and Google Vanessa Amorosi / Songs then kick back and listen to her extraordinary voice and musical talent. Well done Vanessa👍😄Australia🇦🇺loves you❤️

Bit of trivia, the 'doona cover' (the big sheet) actually ripped in two a couple of days before during the rehersal - hence the extra people helping it cover the grandstands and athletes. To think she wrote and performed that at the age of 19 is incredible. One of the great female live performances!
@Threadworxs4 ай бұрын
.. I too, had heard she wrote 'Heroes' but she actually didn't, it was written by John Gillard and Trevor White. The projection sheet, got shredded completely in the first two rehearsal nights we had, they added more 'support people' with each run, final big dress rehearsal/third time lucky!
@kane29842 Жыл бұрын
Seems to be the day for this song. So this performance is… superlative, but it’s also sort of.. well it’s not really something you just sit down and listen to because you’re in the mood. It’s basically montage music. It also, believe it or not, does not fully showcase her abilities. I again cannot recommend enough a song by her called “Have a Look”, specifically the live performance uploaded about 17 years ago to youtube. It is nothing short of astonishing and shows most of her versatility. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnvEZJRuiLelea8 link if it helps. That said, i’ll never not get a tiny bit emotional seeing Kieran Perkins projected onto the giant cloth. What a champion

I think her sustainability question has been settled on this one. Her rendition of Natural Woman was a more intimate setting and she is older. IMO she may have held back on sustaining some belts when the room is smaller hence shortening her notes. In this song she is in a large arena. I hope you may give this consideration given she has clearly demonstrated her vocal and technical skills here already at 19 years of age!!!

Not to toot my own horn but I think Australia nailed it. They paired the greatest athletes, with our greatest performers at the time. You had Vanessa Amorosi, Kylie Minogue, Tina Arena , Olivia Newton John, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Midnight oil, Savage Garden, Christine Anu, and alot of other singers there. Kylie , Savage Garden, and Midnight oil obviously is more of a performer than a vocalist, but the rest were all big big big voices

Hi, i was one of the people backing Vanessa in your last reaction, simply because ive listened to her for 20yrs, and shes one of the greatest female singers of all time. If you hear her sing "perfect" live etc, etc, you'll realise she has the capability to sing anything. She deliberately drops off on some of her performances, it's not a lack of skill....shes the benchmark of vocal agility and range. I listen to all genres of music, including opera, so I know great singing.. I;'m saying this in defence of Vanessa, not as a criticism of your knowledge.

Dave Steward said she is one of the greatest female singer... He has just produce her new song, " Wolf".....currently as we speak now!.... I still don't buy your explanation about looking for things, that the average person could not pick up on.... It's absolute nonsence to suggest that someone's interpretation of an original should be word for word , tone for tone exactly the same.. Hers is her interpretation, different generation ( you are probably just Areatha struck)... not everyone is tone deaf.... I'd also bet many singers would hate to go on stage after her...She'd steal the show.
